This is the sort of thing a cashless society robs us of, the opportunity to try to get away with paying the bus fare in Carthaginian currency www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by the same author may also be worth checking out!
I also love the audiobook for "My Garden World" by Monty Don (read by the author).
Not sure if anyone else has suggested "The Once and Future Sex" by @goingmedieval.bsky.social?

This is how I access Bluesky:
"The lawsuit says OpenAIβs chatbot ChatGPT was used by the shooter as a trusted confidante, collaborator and ally, and it behaves willingly to assist users such as the shooter to plan a mass casualty event."
The Atkinson Principles feeling a lot of strain right now
"The Campaign Research survey found 70 per cent of Ontarians favour a runway extension 'to meet new federal safety regulations' "
A push poll.
This is a push poll, by the notorious Conservative operative Nick Kouvalis, that the government has leaked to the Star

I really wish I knew what the Consultant consults in and what his companies do. Probably some specialist field of finance called 'cancer arbitrage' and an app called Desperati.on that buys people's food stamps to sell back to them.
Iβve been covering abortion access since 2015, and Iβve never experienced the kind of fervor that I witnessed outside a clinic in North Carolina: www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Statement from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre on International Womenβs Day March 8, 2026 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Ottawa, ON β The Hon. Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada and the Official Opposition, released the following statement on International Womenβs Day: βToday we celebrate the backbone of our nation, the amazing women at the heart of our families and communities. International Womenβs Day is a chance for all of us to cherish and appreciate that incredible half of the human race. βFor my own part, my wife Anaida and daughter Valentina have enriched my own life immensely. Today, and every day, I am deeply grateful for them. βConservatives will always fight for a future where Canadian women can achieve their full potential in a country that is safe and affordable for all. βOn behalf of His Majestyβs Loyal Opposition, I want to wish everyone a happy International Womenβs Day!β
I will never understand how someone thinks he's doing a favour for women by praising them for being in his proximity.

Glasgow Central is the busiest station in Scotland, and 3rd outside of London.
Luckily no casualties reported yet, but leaving aside my personal interest in the Grade A listed buildings at risk- this is going to hit commuters and Scotland particularly very hard.
They are YA-to-new-adult (characters start at ages 18/19 and end in their early 20s) and are fantasy (playing with tropes in a fun way) with a beautiful central queer love story.
Alt text: a Victorian stone building on fire. A glass-roof covering Central Station right behind the near-collapsed building.
The fire in Central Glasgow is not unique. The city has many old buildings with ageing electrical wiring. Landlords live elsewhere and rarely renovate.
This time the lack of oversight might cost Glasgow essential rail services.
I just introduced a romance-loving friend/colleague to the Simon Snow books by Rainbow Rowell, and she agrees with me that her future bar for 1st POV will be extremely high. There are 9 POV characters in the first book alone, more in later books, and every single narrative voice is distinct.
The way I hope that they decide to try Canada next π
"Godin is recommending the province ensure that everyone who expresses a desire for MAID have access to adequate support for their physical, psychological, psychosocial and spiritual needs."
We are nowhere close to clearing that bar.
Related: This is where I find myself out-of-step with some (not all) of my fellow lefties due to my grave concerns with expanding access to MAID. www.thecanadianpressnews.ca/health/maid-...
Good article:
I've updated wwater.ca so that the next data refresh will generate graphs covering up toβ―30β―months (2.5β―years) of data, instead of the current 12β―months (1β―year).
Thank you all for your interest and for sharing wwater.ca with your communities and loved ones. Stay safe!
This not a clickbait survey. This is legitimate multi-nation poll reported by Pew Research. Of the 26 nations listed here, the US is the most distrustful of its fellow citizens and Canada the least. This doesn't explain anything, but it illustrates almost everything.
Pew Research graph just published that shows 53% of Americans think Americans are not moral while only 7% of Canadians think Canadians are not moral, and 92% of Canadians judge their fellow Canadians to be moral people, as against only 47% of Americans who judge Americans to be a moral people.
This chart. A measure of what different countries think of their own people. Top of the chart, 53% of Americans think their fellow Americans are bad people, immoral. In Canada, the very opposite, where 92% believe other Canadians are good people. Tell me that 49th parallel doesn't mean something. π§΅
Sigh.
The 2011 remake (with Anton Yelchin, Colin Farrell, David Tennant and Toni Collette) is also worth a watch!
