I'm Policy Director at @progressivereform.bsky.social where I specialize in federal regulatory policy. When not analyzing federal regulatory policy, I enjoy silent film, soccer, and running. "Oh! I'm sorry! This is abuse."

I'm glad every day we have an electric car. But today and for the foreseeable future especially.
This legal fiction isn't too preposterous. I mean, chattel slaves would have engaged in subsistence agricultural. That act would have been simultaneously voluntary and involuntary. And no doubt it would have been contemplated by the authors of the 13th Amendment.
At the risk of sounding hysterical, it could be another signal that this administration will not recognize a peaceful transfer of power. In other words, there is no reason to assume the stint will be "brief."
Is there a 13th Amendment argument to be made against AI companies ripping off our shit? I guess we'd need to create some legal fiction that the same "servitude" could be both "voluntary" and "involuntary." We've certainly come up with weirder legal fictions than that.
It occurs to me that "illegal immigration" implies the existence of "legal immigration." Until we have the latter, what does the former really signify?
My 9 yo is already regularly criticizing my clothes. This is going to be a good one.
Most people don't finish my 500 word articles either. Because they're boring and terrible.
Very tempted
Wow. Lot to unpack there.
This is one of the most jaw dropping moments of Trumpβs presidency. Up there with brainstorming about injecting bleach and shining light up orifices to cure COVID.

I lack the words to capture it, but ... it's just endlessly remarkable to me that so many people in our society have chosen trans kis -- TRANS KIDS, the smallest, least significant, most vulnerable demographic slice you could possibly pick -- as a repository for all their fears & insecurities.
Are we at war with Russia?
