itβs kinda surreal how we still use the internet today in almost the same way we did 10+ years ago.

If users arenβt willing to pay to keep the platform up then theyβve got bigger problems.
Disappointing to see this news. The domain system was already a great, equitable solution for verification. Blue checkmarks for βnotabilityβ only serve social stratification and seem like a feature mostly requested by self-important people desperate for status.
thatβs exactly whatβs going to happen.
if bluesky did a good job of getting orgs and public figures to properly leverage the verifiable domain system, bluesky wouldnβt need blue checkmarks.
sad stuff
Agreed. Truly a disappointing move tbh.
Wasnβt this what Blueskyβs verifiable domain/username system, along with ATProtoβs DID provisions, was supposed to solve in the first place?
Not sure what Iβm missing, but I canβt help feeling like the switch to the βblue checkmarkβ is a failure, and a bit of a cop-out, on Blueskyβs part.

Yep, been looking into them recently.
Their biggest(and sole client) is a local events company in Europe that seems to be doing awesome for it.
Although thereβs a lot about OPEN Ticketing that needs improvement, the project is very much on track w.r.t. its solution and relevance.
It cost the USA (and its assisting allies) around $2β3 Billion to build the Manhattan Project and use its products.
In a sense, that $2β3 Billion was considered a sufficient startup cost for America to achieve their version of world peace.
