lol I work and curl with George
look anytime you can trade for a declining forward that half your fans will hate but your fredo owner wants to hang with him you take it
and when that contributes to the most disastrous season in the 56 year history of the team?
lol jokes on you heβs untradeable because every team is smarter
βSlurs filled a chatβ is a beaut
the bus to the Canada Line now goes once every 30 minutes on weekdays, instead of only during rush hour
so uh progress!
continues to be very funny that vancouver built a brand new neighbourhood on the edge of the city and after a decade thereβs no school or community centre or transit and the developer in charge of everything is pulling out
good job good effort

Hereβs my story on Vancouver staff recommending that the city stop considering Ken Simβs bitcoin dreams
Iβm told thereβs very little chance the mayor ends up βdying on this hillβ as he promised last year
www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
In high school I was banned from performing a song about my classmate in the talent show because he was a famous reincarnated lama who was sent from nepal to british columbia to be in a regular school as an "average student" and they didn't want my song to draw attention to his real identity
the people aren't ready
Mostly I just don't get how you can be satisfied writing the same column with the same perspective on the same issue over and over again for years.
This is a profound continental divide. Canadians overwhelmingly view other Canadians, even those unlike them, as being good people. Americans, more than any other country, view their neighbours and fellow citizens as bad people. Anti-Americanism flourishes in the United States
Hereβs my full video on Day 5 of the Ken Sim and Sean Orr saga.
A bit of todayβs news, a bit of historical context to the story, a bit of answering @seanorr.bsky.socialβs challenge to me earlier this week.
I *think* the story will recede now, but given the weirdness of it all, weβll see!
decided that todayβs ken sim story was really just an excuse to talk about old mayors and their weird beefs
Sim has called bitcoin "the greatest invention ever in human history" and said integrating the cryptocurrency into Vancouver's operations is "a hill I'm willing to die on."
Then five weeks ago he told me it was no longer a focus.
So we'll see if he fights this change.
Ken Sim's attempt to make Vancouver a bitcoin friendly city could be just about dead.
Vancouver council will vote next week on postponing/reducing/killing a number of motions that staff says are too difficult to move forward with.
On the list is Sim's bitcoin motion.
βHave you considered resigning?β asks a reporter.
Sim does not directly answer.
Because this is a public setting, a few people shouted βtake accountability!β or βresign!β as things went on.
Sim taking multiple questions on his drug dealing claim.
βI really stepped in it.β
Says he works every day to retain support of ABC councillors.
I asked councillor Zhou if Sim was the only source of his separate allegations, and if he learned anything, but he did not directly answer.
Mayor Ken Sim and several ABC councillors are at Granville and Georgia to discuss five blocks of Granville becoming a pedestrian-only zone this summer
(weβll see if anything else comes up)
I like trying to explain the mindset and motivation of public figures instead of saying βTHE BAD PERSON IS BADβ, and thereβs a demographic in society these days that reacts strongly against that in all sorts of mediums
man itβs funny to think that six years ago I was like βpeople who do parasocial psychoanalysis of me while claiming iβm partly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of people still deserve to engage so Iβll only selectively mute folksβ and now Iβm like βthe world is too short for this nonsenseβ
πΆ itβs blocking tiiiiiiime πΆ
π
(also, will flag that I took away the belief that it was a physical photo, but it's possible that it was a screengrab and I misinterpreted
but the lack of a digital trail/post forwarded to the mayor is part of the reason they're like "we can't answer further questions")
eh the thing about community events/fundraisers/etc. is that you're doing a lot of 10-30 second quick hits interactions with strangers that are vaguely chaotic and then moving onto the next person
People are gonna believe what they want so I'll stop posting, but I've covered Ken Sim for eight years and heard him speaking at length around 100 times at this point.
Going "I've heard this thing" and then talking about how it could benefit his end goals is very much how he processes stuff.
The mayor once looked into a camera and said in Japan there are 3D printed homes built in a week and that Vancouver should use them to help solve the housing crisis.
He's looked into a camera and said bitcoin is "greatest invention in human history".
Sometimes the mayor just says things.
The previous attacks on Orr? Different groups "discovering" old tweets the day after the election where he says all sorts of Chapo-coded anti-Israel and pro-drug stuff, some media runs with it, and Sim says "this is concerning?"
That's what you want.
Saying "whoops I just say false things" isn't.
The thing about "dark arts" politics is you want others making the biggest allegations about how your opponents have bad character, but without it tied directly to you.
You want to foment a general unease/mystery with your opponent, while keeping the perceived high ground.
This...isn't that.
Nobody around the mayor thinks "spend multiple days explaining why you falsely accused a councillor of dealing drugs on Christmas because you uncritically believed shit a member of the public waived at you" is a good PR strategy
gonna walk up to ken sim and wave a fake ai generated photo of elias pettersson holding up the stanley cup so he can tell everyone the canucks are champions
