This feels "Oh shit if we don't reduce some cap numbers by next Wednesday we'll be in violation of leagues rules"-y

I do like numbers stuff, so I decided to have fun with this. The most cost effective orks I could find were Ork Boyz, where you can get 11 for $48. At this price with $15,000 you could get 3,437 Ork Boyz.
Players like Cousins, Purdy, Jones, Goff can all run an offense at a high level when things are going well. And every now and then you can build a roster that's so good that things always go well. But most eventually need a QB who can toss the system out and create offense on his own.
Just looking at the best QBs around the league:
Great tools: Mahomes, Allen, Jackson, Herbert, Stafford, Maye
Okay tools: Burrow
It is a very rare QB who can play at an elite level without elite tools.
Darnold still has plenty of mental lapses. Why he led the league in turnovers. And you can live with that, because you just need a couple games where he catches breaks and doesn't turn the ball over so his good plays can shine. There's no upside for a just okay QB like Jones or Cousins.
I think there's a difference between Darnold, a phenomenally gifted player who failed early on because he didn't have it mentally, and Jones, a guy who has always been able to run an offense but doesn't have the tools to elevate his game and create offense the way most of the top QBs can.
I think it's well established that Shanahan is on a different level than any other coach. Purdy is second on this list and I can name 10 QBs I'd rather have than him.
Compare what Jones did to Garoppolo's last year in SF. Then look what he became the minute he left.
Yeah, I think Jones can be a perfectly fine starting QB. I don't want a perfectly fine starting QB. We had that with Cousins, and it got us nowhere. I want a great QB. And the only paths to that are either pray for a miracle leap forward for McCarthy, or try again with someone in 2027 or 2028.
It wouldn't just be making some tweaks to work with Kyler. It would be tearing everything down and starting completely from scratch with a brand new philosophy. One that doesn't align with the offensive personnel you've spent the past half a decade building.
Mac Jones just feels to me like, "6 years of Kirk Cousins made us realize we wanted something better. And two years without him made us say, hey, maybe a second Cousins era wouldn't be so bad."
Yeah the Vikings feel like the worst possible fit. It's basically an entire offense designed to accentuate Kyler's weaknesses and play to none of his strengths.
Yeah the games he missed this year were a test case and it turns out Dallas Turner might actually be good at rushing the QB when you aren't asking him to chuck tight ends or drop into coverage every other play
They had an all-time freak pair in the middle of that defense (plus Caleb Downs lol)
Okay but the funniest part of this clip is that the running back can stop and dance in the backfield and still pick up 10 yards because every other defender is getting blasted off the line of scrimmage.
At least one of them agrees with you
Not yet
Yeah though sometimes you can be the one who bets against the suckers. There was a story in the WSJ today about a guy who made over $100k betting that DOGE wouldn't actually lower government spending.
Seriously did anyone think of the hundreds of guests who didn't get maimed and eaten? They probably had a great time!
Yeah I've seen about half of the Jurassic Park movies, and not a single one of them would discourage me from going to an actual Jurassic Park the minute it opens
Okay but maybe when I hit 800 I'll stop
Damn was kind of hoping I'd eventually outgrow them. Sometimes in the past couple years I finally did stop having the dream of going back to high school to claim the football glory I failed to achieve the first time around.
Luckily I've only ever had one job, so all my stress dreams are still about realizing I have an exam in a class I never attended. Keeps me feeling young even a decade since I graduated college.
For some reason this is the one that gets me every time
Those are the 4 teams that have never been to the Super Bowl. A lot more have never won one. Falcons, Panthers, Vikings, Cardinals, Bills, Bengals, Titans, Chargers.
(I'll also throw the Jets on there because I personally don't count anything pre-merger, and also lol Jets)
The problem is everyone is thinking like this. There are 10 teams sitting here saying, "Yeah we'll get our QB in 2027." To say nothing of all the other teams eyeing guys like Jeremiah Smith and Dylan Stewart.
2027 picks are going to be expensive.

True sharks are always able to spot the next opportunity. Can't wait to see what she does next.
I recently tried to compare my boss to the "How do you do fellow kids" meme, then had to explain to him what that meme was
I was worried I will have forgotten too much before season 5. Grateful to now have a way to catch up.
So the result was an increase in prices paid by consumers, which was passed on by corporations as taxes, which will now be refunded to corporations but not consumers
If I thought this administration was capable of complex planning I'd say this was the plan all along. But I think they're just idiots
