BUT if the plume weakens, it can de-anchor from the ridge and facilitate rapid ridge migration.

This is a HUGE improvement to the DECRA application process. It’s now much shorter and has some welcome tweaks to the weightings for each category.
We just need to convince the ARC to fund such a project!
In Australia, the absence of relief in the interior means that the timescales of groundwater flow can be even older ... maybe even millions of years.
And, interestingly, this means that tilting due to dynamic stresses from the mantle may influence the flow patterns.
