Also, seriously, follow translaters on your timeline here. There was a starter pack I found a few months ago and followed probably a dozen or two translators.
It's always interesting to see dialogue about translation and what goes into it, but they're just GREAT PEOPLE.

Can confirm, takes about this long and the best-paid translators only make about $1,000 per volume.
Editors make less per volume; Iโm not sure about Letterers.
Itโs not that expensive to get a good localization of a manga volume.
Donโt let them forget that.
The thing with Japanese companies buying international manga publishers is not only that they have near infinite trust in AI and will keep pushing it, they think if every manga is available, sales numbers will rise accordingly.
Archipel's 1-hour documentary on Mahiro Maeda is out, and it's a must watch to understand the career of this underrated artist who has worked with Miyazaki, Anno... and many international projects, from an aborted "Dune" anime to "Furiosa" (Mad Max).
