I love reading horror, but I'm never quite scared by it. That is, until I picked up a book of @brianevenson.bsky.social's stories.

"I seem to be standing on your clothing," he told the other.
"It's not my clothing," the face said.
"No?" said Grauer. "What is it?"
"My skin," the face said.

Halfway through King Sorrow, and I am pleased to report that @stephenking.bsky.social's habit of mentioning a "blue chambray shirt" in every novel is a legacy that Joe Hill carries proudly.

Loving the book so far! (and reading it in my red flannel shirt, for all you shirtheads out there)

NYT push alert: "A person was shot dead today during a struggle with federal agents in Minneapolis, according to officials."

By who? Who shot the person dead? You saw the video. We all know a federal agent shot a man dead who was prone on the ground. Also, it's not "according to officials." It's according to verified video seen with your eyes. Not saying what anyone can obviously see with their eyes is a form of lying.

Inauguration Day Blues β€” by J.M. Thor
Woke up this morning
Got the baby on the potty
Got screamed at
Did not scream back though i needed to
I held it like a big kid
Made egg salad on toast because
The store only had hard boiled

Kids have the day off school
And I have the day off work
Not to honor …

Just finished The Boatman, @alexgrecian.bsky.social's upcoming, and it was a real treat. My favorite kind of spec fic, where one small thing is different and we examine what scenarios may unspool. Its a poignant meditation on mortality and legacy, and surprisingly, also a breezy beach read. 1/

While the pasty incels who work the federal agencies continue to churn out feeble, bloodless AI pastiches of Axis propaganda, here’s how a living breathing artist powerfully invokes design history. This is by illustrator Emily K in South Philly, a free poster-sized download on her website: β†’

Like how many books will not get written, how many paintings will not get finished, how many songs will go unsung because these fuckers in charge make us too stressed out to find the mental space to be creative
