TVA reverses course, votes to keep Tennessee coal plants open The Tennessee Valley Authority’s board voted unanimously to keep its coal plants open, reversing a 2024 decision to close the Kingston and Cumberland coal facilities.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, the nation’s largest federally owned electric utility, reversed the shutdown of what Trump likes to call “beautiful, clean coal” plants.

In 2008, these “clean” plants spilled 1.1 billion gallons of coal ash into Tennessee communities. Communities deserve better.

Nobody should live in a place called “Cancer Alley.”

In Louisiana, toxic petrochemical plants are poisoning Black communities. With Sharon C. Lavigne and RISE St. James, we applaud a lawsuit that addresses a long history of environmental racism in this community!

As always, our founder Al Gore didn’t mince words at Davos – and for good reason.

But the most important takeaway from his interview is this: fossil fuels are being replaced because clean energy works. It’s cheaper, safer, and already here. Ignoring that reality isn’t leadership – it’s insanity.

Regardless of the decisions made by the Trump Administration, this stops nothing. Climate action continues through people and communities across the globe pushing climate solutions that protect our future.
