It’s like an afterburner. You get a higher top end but you sacrifice fuel. Not a bad trade off for a dreadnaught meant to put the fear of Q in the baddies in a hurry

I have 4 overlapping spheres. The planet, a volumetric cloud layer, a volumetric atmosphere layer, and finally a fresnel alpha to get the intense glow around the edges. The last is a bit hacky. I’d like to get a better effect in the atmosphere shader.
