Trophy number four for the day!

I'm convinced that hatebears and called shots are the key to this format.

Gorilla Shaman is cracked in this format.

Decided to take a spin with Vintage Supreme Draft while it's up at MTGO, and proceeded to trophy three times in a row. The last one was a clean 6-0.

My colours were different every draft, but the core was the same: two-drop hatebears and value creatures, backed by as much artifact hate as possible.

the importance of knowing your audience

I cosign all the values you're talking about here in terms of bespoke design leading to really exciting breakthroughs, and the value of experimenting farther afield (obviously!).

I just... also never want to begrudge someone using the tools they can get their hands on. It's all making.

So for me, when I see people using imperfect tools for their design work, I try to bite my lip rather than saying "hey, have you considered investing eighteen months of free time into designing your own custom tools" because, like, I'm just happy they're making shit.

And I think this past decade's proliferation of SRD-based design work in our little neck of the woods is just the pendulum swinging. And I don't think it's a coincidence we're seeing a more diverse and global field of designers coming out to play?

Because bespoke design is resource-intensive.

For the first dozen years of this century, indie design folks (ESPECIALLY forgeheads) were really intense and dogmatic about the importance of bespoke mechanics and novel systems and an ecology of self-contained products.

And we learned that it shoves marginalized folks out of the space, esp POC.

Absolutely this.

The thing about belonging to any scene / community / field for the long long term is that you end up living alongside all these dipshit echoes of who you used to be, and you have to guess constantly about who lost patience for you well before you stopped being those dipshit versions of yourself.

I believe that there exists a world where we are all warm, and sheltered, and liberated, and healing, a world without prisons or genocide or greed, but if we are ever to reach that world, we must learn how to sit with heartbreak and grief and let it transform rather than immobilize us.

22.02.2026 22:12 👍 75 🔁 15 💬 0 📌 1

I believe that white queer leftist spaces tend to suffer from a lot of irony poisoning, because of that thing I said earlier about not recognizing the image of power divorced from all-too-familiar cruelties, and I am heartbroken seeing my friends so often contort themselves to deny their own power.

22.02.2026 21:56 👍 58 🔁 6 💬 1 📌 0

I believe that sharing simple kindness and warm food with your neighbors is an essential component of liberatory worldbuilding, because it allows us to develop localized networks of mutual aid, but this only happens if we allow ourselves to become genuinely vulnerable and curious toward one another.

22.02.2026 21:50 👍 52 🔁 4 💬 1 📌 0

I believe that pleasure is a necessary axis of any movement for liberation, and women activists from Emma Goldman to Audre Lorde to adrienne maree brown have been shouting that for over a century.

22.02.2026 21:38 👍 57 🔁 4 💬 1 📌 0

I believe that most of us do not have a clear vision of what power looks like divorced from cruelty and exploitation, and so we have come to fear and resent power in all of its forms (while our political enemies have learned to idolize cruelty as an attainable proxy to their own stymied power).

22.02.2026 21:26 👍 63 🔁 4 💬 1 📌 0

I believe that climate restabilization can only be achieved if we repatriate land to its indigenous keepers in every stolen place, if we let go of greed and reject capitalism (consumer luxuries and all), and if we repair our wounded relationship to the more-than-human world.

22.02.2026 21:17 👍 67 🔁 3 💬 1 📌 0

I don't feel like I talk about my political core beliefs very much here on bluesky.

I believe that prison abolition, decolonization, and the dismantling of both capitalism and ethnically-demarcated militarized nation-states are all essential to human dignity and achievable within my lifetime.

Initially, I was really reluctant to pivot off blue artifacts midway through the draft, when my lane was clearly contested. But rakdos sacrifice was clearly what was being passed to me. So I made the pivot.

And, uh... turns out Tolarian Academy and Carnage Interpreter are really good together.

On the one hand, being sick while also having ADHD has killed my motivation to do anything but sit in my basement and draft vintage cube. On the other hand, I've gotten four trophies in a row today.

I wish more folks knew that crowdfunding really fucks with your brain in ways you cannot expect.

We have new creators do small projects 1st because it helps you learn what it’s like.

Weird chemicals, highs and lows, backer feedback loop. It’s a trip.
