Why does the right wing take the dystopia novels as a playbook, and ignore the "let's be kind" novels completely?

I have some reservations, on behalf of marginalized and abused kids, but this is the best I've seen so far, but still goes too far...
I'm disappointed, but not surprised, that the actual consultation doc has no HTML version for basic web accessibility, nor an Easy Read version for people with learning disabilities.
So different versions of the questions are performative, not inclusive.
Yes, if education support is only going to be given for "evidence based" strategies of "what works". (Every child achieving and thriving, DfE 2026)
Wouldn't it be lovely to live in a world where every learner had their needs met regardless of diagnosis...
It would be nice to see a fully accessible (WCAG) version of the report, rather than just a PDF.
By "kids at risk" I mean marginalized kids such as trans, autistic, and abused kids for example, who have higher levels of self harm and suicide.
I'm curious what "Safer online alternatives that enable social connection without the same risk of harm as social media apps." looks like for marginalized and abused kids who need to find their crew.
Overall this overview seems to be very positive and useful, with "kids at risk" reservations...
Especially for that OFSTED job π€£π€£π€£
Lol, for sure!
I think you mean Annie get your gun
I went to bed last night to watch the football with my love, and suddenly realized I hadn't written my journal. Fortunately there's half time. Job done.
But I also have the mantra "start again" to deal with situations like yours...
Why do we do these things to ourselves π€£π¨
Thank you to all the brilliant, feisty women in our network who are working round the clock on the campaign to save the rights of disabled children and young people in England. #InternationalWomensDay2026

A pencil drawing depicting the 1650 Newcastle witch trials, where 15 women were hanged. 4 have already met their fate on the gallows, while another 3 are bound waiting in line to be next. 3 more women look out of the tower window in horror. Men exchange money in the background while horseman, bell ringers and armed men surround the scene. Drawn by Ralph Gardiner in 1655.
On International Womanβs day iβd like to celebrate the 16 Newcastle witches* killed in one day 375 years ago.
* women who were strong willed, single, queer or catholic.
But I don't think there is an agreed etiquette. I tend to connect to people in the SEND world, cos some of them have influence (and money to give me, even if they don't realize that they should yet...)
Just connect, post or repost stuff reasonably often... Come and join us!
OFSTED have jobs going, especially SEND jobs apparently (but like proper special school, none of that fancy new "mainstream inclusion" stuffπ€£)
"If we treat school as a machine for making progress, those who are atypical are spanners in the works."
Who' you calling a spanner?
π
Also excellent that you got a man to "support" International Women's Day, rather than giving voice to say, a woman.
Another rage bait article from the TES. Are you going to interview the NSPCC, who don't support the ban?
From a critique of having gone through the new OFSTED...
"Leaders were intentionally divided and kept apart so there was no time for mutual support, meaningful wellbeing checks nor regrouping. In the end, leaders were simply exhausted."

I looked at today's example and figured any Ai would be able to do this with Tailwind in no time. Probably even with WCAG. And it's a shame that we're devolving subject mastery...
The more I use open source software, the more I realize I have no chance but to move slow and file bug reportsπ€£

Tea, in a pot. But maybe that's UK &Ni
Afternoon tea.
A brisk, windy walk by the sea.
I want to say All Butter Shortbread, but that's Scottish (it doesn't help being half n half).
A proper veggie fry up for Sunday brunch.
These were things I missed when I lived in Barcelona.
Oh, thread muddle, I meant @rjwatt42.bsky.social of course, but I think you knew thatπ
At close to 61 years old, I'm itching to be able to write and play music, paint, sculpt, become more activist, and more active.
I'm taking you as a role model π
Worth it so that the UK can legitimately join in the fun.
I wonder what games Starmer played growing up?
I genuinely don't know why we have to insist on any kind of dress code conformity at all. Ever.
Apart from (checks notes) the patriarchy...
I first heard it about 35 years ago... Head of Humanities... Was that OFSTED coming in? I don't remember now...
From the Frith piece in the TES, it seems like there's going to be an increase in expert voices because of the SEND White Paper. Especially voices that can help reduce entitlement to interventions that cost money.
Or maybe the TES is just going for click bait...
