Death of the author and authorial intent are equally important. The meaning an audience derives from a work can elevate, and understanding the authorial intent behind a work can also elevate it. Many seem to think it's one or the other.
Thats why I think using words with value judgements as descriptors is wrong
I actually find that it tends to more manifest as "things of high value to western culture and ideals" is high art and "things that are consumed primarily for entertainment value" is low art, and then "things of high value to non-western culture and ideals" is called exotic lmao
We don't replace them. We just use descriptors rather than value assignments. All art is differently valuable for different reasons regardless of the genre or medium it's in, so to put certain types of genres or mediums or art broadly into "high" or "low" is reductive and meaningless

I think differentiating between "high art" and "low art" is reductive, diminishes the value of art in general, and creates stigma around creating "low art" that may discourage people from making it.
