i don't think you can really win with fascists while depicting them in violent media because fascists more than anything else fetishize violence. to win is the triumph of the will; to lose is to die gloriously. but either way, they get to partake of violence, and that is their highest calling.

more often than not i think fascists realize they're being portrayed adversarially, but portraying them adversarially is exactly what they want. they *want* to be the thorn in the heel of humanity. they *want* to be hated.

or like, for instance, how satanists read the bible and go "this god guy is a fucking dick. maybe satan was the good guy all along" and from there build a mythology of satan the great liberator

i do feel like "fascists like negative depictions of them because they're illiterate!!" is a bit of a silly argument because it ignores the long history of marginalized folk doing the same by reclaiming negative stereotypes of themselves in media (e.g. queer villains)
