Our strong focus on end to end encryption and zero metadata does mean that one of the original project notions of "you can use delta chat as a lightweight cleartext email client and your contacts don't need to care" was deprioritized since some time now and remains available rather for [β¦]

#DeltaChat breaks the one app, one ID rule of phone-number-based apps by supporting multiple chat profiles. This allows for true private messaging where you can keep a public identity for the Web or Fediverse separate from a private one for family and friends. Managing multiple selves is a new [β¦]

The total privacy of #DeltaChat has a trade-off: there is no global directory. Connecting for private messaging requires a direct QR scan or using an existing channel to exchange invite links. The hurdle is often the readiness of friends, family, or those around you to switch. However, once [β¦]

We engage with decentralization protocols a lot (many nerds love to) but make no mistake: in the end, the app needs to work and be easy to use.
#deltachat is a cross-platform FOSS offering, with guaranteed security levels, close to user expectations ... major factors in driving adoption!

Autocrypt v2 - Post-Quantum and Reliable Deletion
Modern OpenPGP v6 certificate with post-quantum cryptography, reliable deletion, and transport-agnostic messaging for decentralized systems.
It took a while but it's shaping up nicely :) Post-Quantum Cryptography and Reliable Deletion, better known as Forward Secrecy, are going to become available in 2026 in #deltachat. For more details, including the recent #fosdem26 talk recording:

A lot of messaging systems try to reinvent the email system but many (signal, matrix, xmpp) took over one key traditional design which we actually dropped while retaining SMTP/IMAP compatibility: server-controlled identities.
With #chatmail user identities are cryptographic and reside on end [β¦]

- not have critical persistent server state (!)

me: wanna try #deltachat with me? here's a invite link!
most people including grandparents π got it working nice that was pretty easy thx!
computer people π« wait, can i import my key? can't seem to get that working. sometimes i also get a message on thunderbird first before delta chat know why that's happening? i also read on hacker news that gpg should never be used for secure communication i don't know if i trust this. i can't seem to chat with my gmail acct i thought this was just email?
It's true: the more technical background and pre-conceptions you have, the more more likely you run into trouble with #deltachat π
Don't think so much! π
