Helped a friend rework a batch of boards with broken MEMs microphones. Took some images of the silicon membranes... First two are from broken samples, last two are from intact microphones. Our best guess is the CM used shop air to blow off the boards and destroyed the microphones with over pressure.

also you would have to extract the battery from its protective case to measure it, and often times the cases are permanently sealed (eg glued or ultrasonically welded) for safety reasons.
batteries change dimensions slightly when charged and discharged, plus there are manufacturing tolerances. Perhaps for very small capacity batteries the relative tolerances are tight enough, but larger batteries I think the tolerance may be significant.
