I'm sorry man all options sound like ass. The only other tip I've seen passed around is to have a mechanic look at any car before buying but that costs money. It can be useful to ask just to filter out shitty sellers. if they say no then that car is probably fucked
obviously that can be a huge PITA and you have to avoid all kinds of additional scams doing that and also you might be without a car if one of the deals falls through at a bad time.
You'll get more private selling your current car. It's actually kinda neat you could probably get a good price from a collector. It's likely too old to get any reasonable trade-in from a dealership. they'll tell you it's getting scrapped they'll offer $500 and lie it's not even worth that
I know 'fuck you' credit blows. It would go easier if you can get a pre-approved loan from your bank or credit union. Once you know what you can afford from them then you can look for cars in that price range. I looked at Autotrader, Autolist, and local corp. dealerships for cars in my price range.
Mostly you gotta avoid scammers and predatory dealerships if the listed price is too good it's probably a scam or one of those shitty buy-here-pay-here guys that'll have a tracker w/ ignition cutoff if they ever decide to repo or just wanna steal it from you and resell it to some other poor mexican
I don't know where to begin now that the internet is flooded with SEO and AI slop results. I guess just start down somewhere on page 30 of google results to try to find actual human posts about the cars?
finally sick of people asking to see your cool car? When I last bought a car I mostly narrowed it down to a couple of models and then read forums devoted to those specific brands/models for common things to look out for and explainers for differences in trim levels.

I grew up in keene and during a field trip in 7th or 8th grade they brought us to mt van ho and sent us down the last 1/4 mile of the old bob run in 2-man sleds. 2 kids per sled. No adult driver. We didn't get going fast enough for any real trouble but it was dicey!

3 days that turned into 4. Moving from Texass to NY. I drove the biggest uhaul they rent with my Prius on a trailer behind it. My wife drove the Tundra pulling the horse trailer. She also had both cats with her in the Tundra. Worst move/road trip of my life. Horse trailer kept getting flats.
