This is not trueโ€”driverโ€™s licenses arenโ€™t acceptable under the SAVE Act without additional proof of citizenship. The fact that they keep doing this sleight of hand should make clear that the SAVE Act is not something that โ€œevery American getsโ€

Black-and-white 19th-century engraving of the New England Female Medical College building on Springfield Street in Boston, the institution from which Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler graduated in 1864 as the first Black woman to earn a medical degree in the United States. The illustration shows a large, three-story Victorian-style brick structure with a mansard roof featuring multiple dormer windows and chimneys. The facade includes tall arched windows on the upper floors, a prominent central entrance with a grand arched portico supported by columns, flanked by smaller arched doorways or windows, and a wide staircase leading up to the main entrance where a few small figures of people are shown standing or ascending the steps. The building is surrounded by trees, shrubs, and grass in a landscaped setting, with light shading to convey depth and texture typical of period illustrations.

Photograph of the aged, original 1883 title page from A Book of Medical Discourses by Dr. Rebecca Lee Crumpler, M.D., recognized as the first medical book written by a black author in the United States. Printed in black ink on yellowed, worn paper with frayed edges, minor creases, and stains from age. The centered title appears in large, ornate uppercase letters: "A BOOK OF MEDICAL DISCOURSES" followed by "IN TWO PARTS." Below, detailed subtitles describe the contentsโ€”Part First addresses the cause, prevention, and cure of infantile bowel complaints from birth through the teething period up to the fifth year; Part Second provides miscellaneous information on life and growth, the beginning of womanhood, and the cause, prevention, and cure of distressing complaints affecting women and both sexes. The author's credit reads "BY REBECCA CRUMPLER, M.D." (with a handwritten checkmark or underline nearby). At the bottom: "BOSTON: CASHMAN, KEATING & CO., PRINTERS. FAYETTE COURT, 603 WASHINGTON ST. 1883." A prominent circular red library stamp from the "SURGEON GEN'L OFFICE LIBRARY" dated "12/1/31" overlaps the lower center, along with faint additional library markings, giving it an archival, historical appearance typical of 19th-century medical publications held in institutional collections.

A classic black-and-white formal portrait photograph of Carrie Chapman Catt (1859โ€“1947), the prominent American women's suffrage leader and strategist, taken around 1909 when she was approximately 50 years old. She is shown in a half-length or three-quarter view, facing directly toward the camera with a calm, resolute, and dignified expressionโ€”eyes steady and mouth set in a composed line. Her hair is styled in voluminous, softly curled waves parted in the center, framing her face with a mature elegance typical of the Edwardian era. She wears a high-necked white blouse or chemisette with delicate ruffled detailing at the collar, layered beneath an ornate dark satin or velvet jacket adorned with intricate embroidered floral and scroll patterns in lighter tones along the wide lapels and sleeves. The background is a neutral studio gradient with soft shadowing, emphasizing her poised and authoritative presence as a key figure in the fight for the 19th Amendment, which granted U.S. women the right to vote in 1920. The image conveys strength, intelligence, and determination in the women's rights movement.

Letโ€™s talk about bossware and if you havenโ€™t heard that term yet, hereโ€™s what it is. Bossware is workplace surveillance software. Software that tracks your keystrokes, monitors what websites you visit, takes random screenshots of your screen throughout the day, and logs how long you step away from your desk. In some cases it uses your own camera to make sure youโ€™re actually sitting there. Itโ€™s marketed to employers as a โ€œproductivity tool.โ€ What it actually is, is a digital leash.
So why are we bringing this up right now? Because Palantir (the surveillance and AI company that has been cozying up to the Trump administration) just walked away with a no-bid contract with the USDA as part of a larger $300 million deal, all framed around return-to-office implementation. No competition, no other bids, just handed to them. And the reason they gave for skipping the bidding process? National security. National securityโ€ฆ for return-to-office desk assignments.
Hereโ€™s what the contract actually says theyโ€™ll be doing: โ€œreal-time analytics to optimize space utilization and employee seat assignmentsโ€ and โ€œcontinuous compliance monitoring upon detection of threats or anomalies.โ€
Threats and anomalies. In a contract about where people sit. That is not facilities management language. That is surveillance language particularly bossware language.
The USDA has already lost 27,000 employees (27% of its entire workforce) since January. And now theyโ€™re rolling out Palantir to monitor everyone whoโ€™s left. Federal workers, be aware. The tools being put in place around you are not there to help you. They are there to watch you.

A side-by-side split image contrasting a real-life portrait of Francine Hughes (Francine Moran Hughes Wilson, 1947โ€“2017) with the promotional movie poster for the 1984 NBC television film The Burning Bed, which dramatized her landmark domestic abuse case.

On the left: A color photograph of Francine Hughes as a middle-aged woman shown in a close-up headshot against a dark background. She has shoulder-length dark brown hair styled in soft waves, warm brown eyes, and a gentle, resilient smile revealing straight teeth. Her expression conveys quiet strength, warmth, and survivor resilience, wearing subtle earrings and light makeup.

On the right: The dramatic 1984 movie poster for The Burning Bed, starring Farrah Fawcett. The dark, moody design features a fiery orange-red glow at the bottom, evoking flames. Tagline text at the top reads "Based on the sensational true story..." in white lettering. Centered is Farrah Fawcett as Francine Hughes, with intense, haunted expression and windswept blonde hair, wearing a purple dress; she protectively embraces three frightened children (two girls with long hair and a boy in a striped shirt) clustered around herโ€”one girl looks up worriedly, another stares ahead solemnly, and the boy rests his head on her shoulder. Title text in bold orange-yellow letters: "FARRAH FAWCETT THE BURNING BED". The poster highlights themes of abuse, survival, and maternal protection, based on the true events of March 9, 1977, when Hughes set fire to her abusive ex-husband's bed after years of violence, leading to her acquittal by reason of temporary insanity and greater national awareness of battered women's syndrome.
