Cassette Beast. Monster collector where you not only transform into the monster you tame, but you are also able to fuse any two monsters into one.

Bugsnax. Made by the same people that made Octodad. A proof that a monster collector doesn’t need to be a turn based RPG. Nor needs to be a RPG in the first place.

Here’s some indies as more examples because you don’t need the biggest of budgets to be creative.

Yokai Watch, a JRPG that started on 3DS back on early 2010s. Made by Level5

Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth & Digimon Story Hacker’s Memory. 3vs3 JRPG by Bandai. There’s multiple Digimon with many that play differently but these two are some of the most successful ones.

Beastieball. JRPG that’s also a volleyball, even ditching the elemental type chart for more volleyball gameplay elements. Made by the sake indie studio that made Wandersong.

Monster Rancher 1 & 2. Two PS1 games where you raise your monster tamagochi style that you summoned from real life CDs.

The best monster taming and monster collector games are those that would still exist in an alternative reality where Pokemon never existed.

If you never gave any of these games a chance for being “too different from Pokémon”, then you are one of the reasons Pokémon is so dominant in this sub-genre.

I'm having a lot of feelings that hurt my heart but they're all internal.

Here's my routine reminder that you should avoid using copied and pasted 'special' fonts for your name/bio over a social media's default! Screen readers have a nightmare-ish time with these, plus they're usually not dyslexic friendly. Aesthetic should never come before accessibility.

Cons are expensive for us artists, we need to pay upfront sometimes thousands for a chance to make income (if we are even lucky to get accepted). Support artists and tip them if you can. Many of us are stuck behind tables for 8 hours or more with no helpers, food, or bathroom breaks.
