Converting the Amstrad 464 Plus: Does it actually work?
We've just got time for one more #Janstrad video, now we've upgraded the memory to 128K and added the components necessary to use a disk drive we just have one more question, does it all actually work?
Just the listing, his whole page is full of copied stuff, including Atari ST ports to the Jag
Yeah, I know - hopefully it’ll be faster though because they have a specific rule around trying to circumvent a takedown
As far as I can see he did the same thing as me, maybe it just took multiple submissions
I don’t take part in things like #marchintosh anymore, but here’s the video I released 5 years ago
A Mac under every Telly: The Apple Pippin #MARCHintosh

Really? I like the PC engine version personally - but then given that I grew up with the Sinclair Spectrum version it may be that we’re coming from a different place :D
Sverx over on Mastodon managed to get the listing taken down
Ah well, screw it, it’s not even that great a game, it’s ok - but it seems that everyone believes you have to give everything you make away for free and you have no rights. I think I’m done. Thanks to everyone who did support my games, you’ve proven there are good people out there.
Yeah eBay are fine with someone stealing my game and selling it on their service - after an apparent actual human looked at it I’d now have to take legal action to stop the guy.
They’re such pretty machines
That’s definitely not the case for Hydlide and Mappy as they both say they have to be loaded from IPL, and probably not one of the lode runner tapes because that does attempt to load - but the other one fails with a bad read mode error, so maybe
There isn't one, it just restates the problem several times and then says 'that's it'
None of the tapes loaded, which is worrying because the only thing i've ever successfully loaded on it is BASIC. Although that does load 99% of the time. I'm wondering if a) there's a ram issue or b) I don't know what i'm doing
Oh yeah Solaris 10 was always unlikely to run - but it’s also the only install I can get to boot into the kernel
A sharp X1 in red. A screen behind shows text that reads IPL is loading Lode Runner
Crossing fingers and toes
A vintage Sharp X1 computer is prominently displayed, featuring a keyboard and a cassette drive. Nearby are two cassette tapes for Lode Runner and a game box labeled "Hydride for the Sharp X1." The background includes a cluttered workspace with additional keyboards and cables.
Will any of these tapes load? Probably not - the X1 tape drive is ropey at best, but if we can even load one game we have an exhibit #RetroComputing
Turned out that the installs were failing so early they weren’t populating the devices - if I kicked it off manually it worked - now labelled and repartitioned
I’ve got it, thanks though
Jesus fucking christ, I assume this is LLM written - otherwise someone should check on the author because i'm not sure they should be left alone

I've no idea frankly. The mount obviously works, it pulls the kernel across from there, but then fails to mount it. So either it doesn't like the kernel or it suddenly can't read from NFS. The only reason I think that might be happening is because a tcpdump shows a wave of file not founds
The image displays a computer error screen showing a system panic message. It includes details about a failed attempt to mount a root filesystem, along with a warning about not being able to add a route. The screen also indicates that a reboot is occurring after skipping
Ah, the 8 and 9 editions of Solaris aren’t segfaulting, they just can’t mount the root - I’m not sure why but presumably something in my NFS setup - even though it works with 10
Many thanks to whomever overpaid for the Atari Jaguar edition of Jurl, presumably in response to me being ripped off. It's appreciated.
They are weirdly pleasing
Close-up of a shiny metallic surface with a circular component, part of a hard drive spindle arrangement - a giant scratch goes from the edge to partway to the center
Took a closer look at the two drives that came with the Ultra 30, on of them they did a proper number on - drilled the connector, one of the chips and into the side and the platters - here’s the damage inside
We have a MASSIVE Retrogaming sale going on today.
You can still get bargains like it’s 1999.
So much retro out for sale today, let me know if you want to see more…
The image shows a computer monitor displaying terminal output related to disk configuration and file system details. It lists various disk drives, their capacities, and system directories. There are also physical components, including objects wrapped in plastic and electronic parts, visible in the foreground
I don’t know what magic sauce made this suddenly work, I sort of threw everything at it this morning, but it at least sees the drives now
A YouTube comments page showing lots of random comments from a single account
This account will be appearing as a subscriber on some channels soon then - this is how the ‘buy subscribers’ sites make their subscribers look real, by commenting randomly on legitimate channels and having other bots like it.
Usually not this many, I can only assume it’s a glitch - anyhoo reported
Well, that was an ominous but also damp squib #F1
There is a lock-in in the sense that if you can’t make it label the drives and set the magic number then it won’t use them
