The gist is that legal hemp and illegal marijuana look & smell exactly the same and you can't tell them apart unless you 1.) smoke it or 2.) get it tested in a lab using equipment that NC cops don't have. But police often SAY they can tell the difference & use it as a pretense to make arrests anyway

Under a 1915 law (yes, 1915), if after canvass there is a tie in a multi county Senate race, there is NO recount, instead there is an AUTOMATIC second primary unless one of the two withdraws. If there is a tie in the SECOND primary, the primary is vacated and the party executive committee chooses the winner and is not limited to the tied candidates. GS 163-111

Here's something I learned in researching this story: Since the death of George Floyd, 2/3rds of the private companies that provided liability insurance to law enforcement agencies pulled out, and those that remained have increased their rates and lowered caps.

Careful. Not sure her vote re: NC sheriffs and ICE was *the* defining issue. Her hateful speech during that vote was also a problem, but IMO *the* defining issue was unreliably voting with the governor in a near supermajority. All 3 unreliable D reps went down and ICE wasn't an issue with other 2.

North Carolina just dumps all of the early vote in all at once. The precinct count represents election day voting. They used to dump in the early votes right after the polls closed, but they’ve changed that over the years. Everything is fine!
