Photo of a few square inches of tree trunk. Growing on the tree trunk are several grey lichens (growing flat on tree), a lichen that looks like a bunch of tiny egg yolks, and a bright red fungus that looks like a half dozen or so round/oval red blobs.
A few square inches of tree trunk. At least 4 species of lichens (Parmelia, two Physcia species and Caloplaca) plus Red Tree Brain Fungus. #lichen #fungi #fungifriends.

"Never pretend that they didn't tell you exactly who they are
And, wherever you are, never tell yourself it couldn't happen here."
Yes. Both these phrases are looping in my brain too.
Another painting of parrot tulips, this time a pastel. These are in a favourite vintage glass jug which is a bit wonky and I like that. This was framed and sold and I think I probably pastelled out the white blank area top right

What a creature! (I looked it up.) How infinitely marvelous.
There's a sweet tenderness, a good will, a loving of folk, little folk, big folk, men, women. One of those paintings where you, as on-looker, are also participant. I like standing here in the snow, people watching in a different time and place. ๐
Too bad I'm so far away... I'd stop by and keep you company, as you do me, here. Enjoy!

I love learning this. Snails!

A blue sky, late afternoon, a full moon, the last sun touching the tops of naked trees and a telephone pole, a bank of snow, a road.
Came around a corner, coming down from the hill towns after visiting a suffering friend... to this. I don't have a lens to do it justice but posting anyway.
Thank you. You are a generous companion here and I appreciate you.
from Loosestrife for Porcupines, coming out this month.
A short poem with no stanza breaks, titled TWENTY THOUSAND MISSILES Lost: the scent of pillows women placed near an open window, laundered with bluing and lavender, sun-plumped with spring air, and damp cases pinned downwind of the storm-proven orchard, white curtains, white walls, white apple blossoms. Three grown sisters, laughing in the kitchen. One, in oven mitts, holds up her hands. One, barefoot at the table, paints her toes. One, pregnant, amazed.

It does, doesn't it.
Click on this one to see it larger. It's the essence of happy. Somehow.
"This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair. No place for self-pity. No need for silence. No room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal." ~ Toni Morrison

I think of you, Yaroslava, and your video love poems to Kyiv. Thanks for amplifying, Felicity. It's what we're doing here on Bluesky, in part, isn't it. Holding onto the love of art, culture, books and everyday kindnesses in the face of poisonous cruelties and the gluttony of power.
So for tomorrow then, it's Brio's ears dragging in the snow as she sniffs, then the tracks she makes stopping to shake them.
Un-retractable! Cool observation. From you, of course. I'll let the post sit a few more hours then tell the secret.
Brymo continues to extract amazing images from abalone.

paw-prints on a snowy field and straight lines going in the same direction and then parallel.
Guess what kind of tracks? Guess!
Love the work you do, Suzanna. I was first drawn to you by the short film you have pinned about healthy soil and biodiversity, showed to friends, and since then, I'm grateful for the pleasure of walking with you in appreciation.

Unusual, yes? And strikingโthe bright mustard sails and their reflections, the deep almost violent bruise of sky, how the colors bleed, the few moments of crisp definition, the glass-like water....
If you're deep in snow, even if you're not: these small wonders from Suzanna accompanied by a full chorus of birds.
Two neighborhood houses, one pale green and white, the other yellow. Then multiple feet of snow, a planted handmade sign, "Free Snow." A bit of shoveled sidewalk. Foreground, a red fire hydrant with a red plastic lollipop on a stick.
A neighbor's tag sale. One item. "Free Snow."
