Greater bulldog bats (๐˜•๐˜ฐ๐˜ค๐˜ต๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฐ ๐˜ญ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฑ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ถ๐˜ด) are one of just two bat species that subsist almost entirely on fish ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐ŸŸ
They use their disproportionately large feet to catch fish mid-flight. However, their diet varies seasonally, so they may also eat insects, shrimp, crabs, and scorpions.

Did you know that approximatively 70% of bats are insectivorous? ๐Ÿชฒ๐Ÿชณ๐Ÿฆ‹
Scientists estimate that insect-eating bats save U.S. farmers roughly $23 billion each year by reducing crop damage and limiting the need for pesticides. On average, bats can eat up to half their body weight in insects EACH NIGHT.

What's that bat?!๐Ÿฆ‡

Seen only as silhouettes in darkening skies, bats are just about impossible to identify. Based on numbers and geography, however, we can make some pretty good guesses. Learn more: https://www.batcon.org/the-ten-most-common-bats-in-the-u-s/

Wroughtonโ€™s free-tailed bat is enigmatic, to say the least. Over a century after their discovery, remarkably little is known about their population size, movement patterns and breeding behavior.
