We are thankful to the Richard Lounsberry Foundation and Burroughs Wellcome Fund for making this scholarship a reality to make a difference to 25 first-year graduate students, part of our 2025 Alumni Program.
Through our Alumni 2025 scholarship, we have supported 52% of our students with funds for laptops, 40% on educational supplies such as textbooks, 24% for conferences, and 20% for tuition expenses.
From conversations with our Alumni 2025 scholars, we learned that they have experienced financial expenses in their 1st year of graduate school:
1) In need of new laptops for courses/research
2) High relocation costs to start grad school
3) Increasing cost of student life fees
Demographics of our Alumni 2025 Scholarship Recipients:
80% identify as women
60% identify as Latine/x/o/a
24% identity as Black
76% grew up in low-income households
60% are first-gen students
