Honestly this is somewhat psychologically helpful if disturbing.

Very bad, and recently, healthcare targeting has been strongly self-reinforcing in conflict.

I think he actually *had* to make that vote because it was a top salience issue even for Dems at the time of the vote. I hated it but it was probably the most appropriate fold at the time for his state and electorate.

I appreciate this now-niche reference.

Also worth noting it's a Geneva convention violation to target medical facilities (if that part is true), regardless of who they treat.

Also if it was a medical facility, that is another war crime, regardless of whether it was treating civilians or combatants.

I can’t emphasise leading w/ empathy for civilians *everywhere* on a day like today enough.

The first casualty here in the UAE, where I live, is an Asian civilian at a residential building.

Many Ukrainians, Palestinians, Iraqis, Syrians, Sudanese & other war-traumatised people live here.

Alternately, the August healthcare premiums hike (yeah you can infer from this who I voted for twice in the primaries).

Got a BOGO with Venezuela.

I was going to say campaign manager Rahm but honestly he is too much of a partisan warrior (laudatory).

Savannah teacher killed in crash by man fleeing from ICE According to the Chatham County Police Department, Monday morning’s fatal crash was the result of a chase between Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and a suspect.

ICE killed a teacher in Georgia today when they chose to chase a man who posed no danger and had no criminal history.

And either way, incredible ticket.

Agree :-)

I think Obama Biden is a stronger ticket than the flip. Ditto Trump Pence or Bush Cheney. I am not sure we will be in a meme place in 2028.

I think tickets have tried that and it doesn't work. Low information voters don't turn out bc they like the veep choice.

Flip it, you have to put the vote getter as the headliner.

tenure but I do think on the individual level, AI can enable some of this. Broadly, if someone is more of a 'live to code' researcher than a 'code to live' one, I can see how this approach does little to reduce grief.

In my own life, I want to get to a place closer to the romantic ideal of a mid century academic. I want to spend more time coming up with new ideas. I want to brainstorm with colleagues across disciplines. I want to read more broadly and take a lot of walks. Maybe this is more achievable after

What does this mean for researchers and teachers? In the classroom, I plan to use less technology *in class* and to shift away from assignments where students are spending intensive time executing a task on the computer. Assignments integrate AI use or be analog (I ideally like to mix these).

15.02.2026 18:45 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

The value of thinking predates the computer. I am very comfortable arguing it predates written language! Creativity and connection do as well!

15.02.2026 18:45 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

If we no longer have to execute tasks on the computer, but instead task AI with the execution of those tasks, we could see a shift back toward a more analog world. I *hope* this does not mean an end to 'thought work' or that the only job options for our children are health and the trades.

in which screens anchor our working, learning, and socializing-- has not existed for very long at all and has a variety of negative physical and social effects. We have been in this way of life because computers became such a useful tool we increasingly used them to do everything.

Not a Luddite but I do think we *could* be approaching the end of a 'way of life', and even in the best policy/economic scenarios, it is natural and approach to feel some grief about that. However, I am trying to push myself to imagine best case outcomes. The 'way of life' we may be losing--

I think a lot about the most pessimistic outcomes and they shape the options for my children.

Chips on the table, I find AI to be a powerful/transformative technology, I am very pessimistic about the ability of our govt to make choices that protect safety and do not worsen inequality or social and environment harms, and I personally enjoy using it.

15.02.2026 18:45 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I recently won an award from my university for use of AI in the classroom, so, like everyone, I have been thinking a lot about how AI will shape the next couple decades and what that means for college students now (and my much younger kids).

AOC making the same correct point that civil rights advocates made in the 1950s: democracies are strongest when we live up to our values

Random posters: make sure you sand off your finger prints before attending a protest. Kansas mom: gotta wear my nice sandals and blow out my hair before I go burn down this building.
