Montipora coral
Todayβs coral of the day is this striking Montipora species. Corals like this get their colors from microscopic algae called zooxanthellae. Theyβre the ones doing the photosynthesis, producing nutrients for the coral and getting protection and a home in exchange.
Symphysanodontidae is a small family of fishes known as Slope Fishes. They are only found in deep reefs, and very rarely seen. And they are especially hard to photograph because they really don't like our lights. But I got a good shot of one at 120m depth! #PerpetualPlanet
