Hello Fediverse! Allow me to introduce myself. I have the great fortune to live in North Vancouver - the best place to live in the world (thanks to the […] [bridged from https://cosocial.ca/@renegourley on the fediverse by https://fed.brid.gy/ ]
Throttle box full of wires.
#hobbyStreak 124. Worked on the steam throttle some more. #modelRailway #modelRailroad
A 3D rendering of a roughly conical component that hangs off the bottom of the air pipe.
#hobbyStreak 123. That centrifugal filter for air lines has finally been designed. It's about 2mm long, and so, simplified slightly. #modelRailway #modelRailroad
Model railway car ferry in its slip. This is the before image, with the aerial in tatters, walkways busted, roof shattered. Still a nice model, it is almost 50 years old!
#hobbyStreak 122. Spent the evening repairing this car ferry. #modelRailway #modelRailroad
@awilbert beautifully modelled! The cougar reminds me of the one at the museum of nature in Ottawa. With the similar pose and the two cubs, I had to check to see if you had used it for inspiration.
1/8” axle with a gap at one end. Sadly, it is not an insulating gap!!
#hobbyStreak 121. Is it still a streak if it’s a failure? Not-so-split axle conducts electricity perfectly. Guess I’ll try again. #modelRailway #modelRailroad
Number 44 in care of GTR 1120 at Pembroke. All the buildings including the depot to the right and the carriage factory behind the train are white foam core mockups.
#hobbyStreak 120. I fixed that switch just in time for my visitor to run num 45 and 44 down to Golden Lake and back, almost without incident. #modelRailway #modelRailroad.
The engine house switch on Pembroke. It was working perfectly, got fully detailed, ballasted and scenicked. Now it’s causing a persistent derailment.
#hobbyStreak 119. I have a visitor tomorrow, so cleaned all the track and ran a test train. Why has the gauge on this switch become tight all of a sudden? #modelRailway #modelRailroad
Tuscan and grey train master leads a coal train through unfinished scenery
#hobbyStreak 117 went for an operating session on my friend’s layout
OnShape screenshot showing the coal car frame with a long live brake lever that is now angled so the truck top rod is even with the bolster.
#hobbyStreak 116. Adjusted the brakes on the coal car #modelRailway #modelRailroad

An aluminum cylinder 6mm in diameter with a flange at one end and a shoulder at the other, and a brass cylinder 6mm long.

Four new wheel centres in black Abs-like resin on my cutting mat.
#hobbyStreak 113 printed some new wheel centres for Percy. #modelRailway #modelRailroad
Underside of the coal car’s frame showing the B-end brake lever
#hobbyStreak 112. Added all the brake levers and rods while waiting for a flight. #modelRailway #modelRailroad
View from above the coal car’s brake platform showing the new ratchet and pawl, and the support for the top of the brake staff
#hobbyStreak 111 Today was a travel day, but I managed to get a few more brake details in. #modelRailway #modelRailroad
The end of the coal car 3D model with brake platform and bottom end of the staff added.
#hobbyStreak 110 Drew in the brake platform and the end of the brake staff. #modelRailway #modelRailroad
3D model showing the train line passing through one of the wheels.
Oops, this could be a problem!
Screenshot of 3D model focused on the triple valve and its connection to the train line. Adding elbows and T junctions to pipes is easy at this stage!
#hobbyStreak 109 Plumbed in the brake cylinder. Someone needs to draw an inertial air filter! #modelRailway #modelRailroad
The brake cylinder hangs below the side beam, and so the queen posts had to get slender.
#hobbyStreak 108 Positioning the brake cylinder assembly required a redesign of the queen posts #modelRailway #modelRailroad
Screenshot showing the end of the body of the coal car. The grab ends are slightly larger and the ones for the ladder are now above the grabs rather than beside.
#hobbyStreak 107 not much time today. Just tweaked the ladder and grab ends slightly #modelRailway #modelRailroad
Onshape screenshot of one end of the coal hopper with ladder rung ends, cut lever supports and number board newly added.
#hobbyStreak 106 completed the details that are asymmetric on each end. #modelRailway #modelRailroad
Onshape screenshot showing the new winding rod for the doors and the unusual queen post implied by the lack of needle beams.
#hobbyStreak 105. More details added to the hopper frame. #modelRailway #modelRailroad
The underside of the hopper doors with strap hinges in place.
#hobbyStreak 104 finished up the hopper doors. This probably would have been faster to fabricate rather than print! #modelRailway #modelRailroad
Onshape screenshot of the hopper. I changed some parts to hex nuts rather than cylinders, changed the direction of a strap and added a strap across the bottom of the slope sheet.
#hobbyStreak 103 more detail refinement for the coal car. #modelRailway #modelRailroad
Closeup of the underside of the hopper 3d model with straps and fasteners to bolt the planks together.
#hobbyStreak 102 not much time today, but started adding fasteners to the hopper #modelRailway #modelRailroad
Quarter of the coal car showing the body, including the slope sheet, and the frame including the hopper sides.
#hobbyStreak 101 figuring out how this car is going to be assembled. #modelRailway #modelRailroad
Thanks to the bluesky users for their congratulatory messages! I’ve no idea if you received the replies through the bridge.
Thanks!
A mock-up of the coal car built around a Crest toothpaste box (almost the perfect size) alongside a print of the image of the coal cars.
#hobbyStreak 100 Brought some arts and crafts to the Ottawa Valley Associated Railroaders #modelRailway #modelRailroad
Half a coal car showing the relationship between the posts (visible by a line of nuts on the inside of the car side, and the frame. There is a beam to support the middle of the hopper doors, and another to support the slope as it cross the frame. Each has a post to either side. The remaining car side has two more posts spaced equally in the gaps for 10 posts in total.
#hobbyStreak 99 I think I figured out what those double posts are about: they’re on either side of a cross-bearer in the frame. #modelRailway #modelRailroad
