Another death rattle (and I can't escape the feeling that we are all, in some way, complicit).
There is, I suspect, a disconnect somewhere. And so, I decided to ask some questions of my own: the first annual “BPR State of Trade Book Publishing Survey” (finally, some industry truth serum!) Link below:

My question: Are they generally happy with their chosen profession, or are they generally happy to have a job in this era of AI? Because in the same article, they write that only 37 percent of respondents would recommend a career in publishing (a figure akin to Trump's approval rating).
Publishers Weekly observes, in their annual survey, that “this year’s respondents are generally happy with their chosen profession, rating their job satisfaction at seven out of 10 on average.”

I am looking to hire a part-time assistant. Previous assistants have learned quite a bit about the business supporting me (or so they have said). Indeed, my most recent assistant has just graduated into a full-time job in publishing.
