This was indeed a project I enjoyed a lot, because it exemplifies that many considerations in diagnosis and surgery planning only truly make sense in 3D, and that it's hard to do so without dedicated software support.

I'm confident that the helium needed for MRI applications will significantly drop in the next years. Siemens, for instance, just won a price on MRI scanners needing less than a liter of He for cooling. Steps like this will buy us a few decades.

Years in the making, I'm really happy for this milestone. Histotripsy will save countless of lives using focused #ultrasound alone. No needle, no scalpel, no radiation needed - only mechanical energy to destroy tumor tissue.
AI models in this field have come a long way and enable robot-assisted minimally invasive surgeries through enhanced visualization and feedback control -> they make it easier for human operators to perform a surgery precisely & safely, ultimately aiming for better outcomes.
The challenge is essentially to detect the pose of surgical instruments in endoscopic images, i.e. how minimally invasive surgical tools are oriented in a scene, without any markers. www.synapse.org#!Synapse:syn...
