*side note, I knew of RUTFs mostly through John Green describing them, but Plumpy'Nut has to be the most hilarious name. Which, you know, if it helps people remember it and fund MSF, then Godspeed www.doctorswithoutborders.org/latest/what-...

When I was a kid I thought George Washington Carver was a bit overhyped, but honestly the older I get the more I appreciate peanut butter. I'm sick and have no appetite but could handle peanut butter bread. Plus without PB, would we have lifesaving Plumpy'Nut? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plumpy%...

A huge portion of jobs in the US economy are structured either Medieval Guild (massive barrier to entry/high wages, e.g. physicians) or Ponzi scheme (low barrier to entry, race to the bottom wages e.g. Uber driver). We weren't starting from a good base before AI www.jff.org/idea/the-ame...
Pedantic historically aware quibble- but the Luddites weren't mindlessly in favor of "hand labor drudgery" over "mechanical progress!", they were actually simply about "skilled craftsman Labor" over "Owners of the Means of Production Undercutting Capital".

Let's see, if I'm 350 miles to Windsor and my Prius gets 60mpg, I need to keep 6 gallons in my tank at all times to ensure I can flee the country. That... isn't actually unworkable.
Not a bad idea, also, keep your gas tanks topped up. Number one, gas prices increasing by the literal second, number two evacuations, you want to drive as far as you can w/o stopping.

there is perhaps no context in which DunningβKruger is more common or more deadly than driving
Yeah, I mean individual people are nuts and have always been, and Covid related damage to visual processing may be real. But when you *deprofessionalize all of the driving jobs* it turns out all the of the drivers are inexperienced. Taxi-> Uber as well as the truckers.
Somebody desperately needs to collect writings of people saying this kind of thing for the last 2000 years and make a tiktok of it
It's actually a decline of union jobs -> 94% turnover in long haul truck driver jobs. The inflation adjusted pay of truck driving has been declining since the 70s. It used to be a good job, and now they are literally all amateurs.

PSA: the popular pressure and widespread support was
A) the result of a massive post 9/11 propaganda campaign
and
B) AFTER W and Karl Rove had hatched their plots
Can the modern media ecosystem can brainwash people into supporting murdering brown kids in the Middle East as quickly now?

That company is a delight
Theranos was a legitimate fraud and got in trouble for lying to investors about innovative tech while quietly using established tech (badly). Similar to... every AI company right now. Artificial wombs are an important step on our journey to full human parthenogenesis.
