Thrilled to feature @stevevladeck.bsky.social's analysis of SCOTUS's shadow docket ruling in the NY redistricting case in @statecourtreport.org. He argues it raises significant jurisdictional issues & is a dramatic expansion of SCOTUS's power over state courts. statecourtreport.org/our-work/ana...
The constitution's design does not grant the president a kinglike ability to take the country to war by himself, lest he do so for self-serving reasons. That is the entire purpose of dividing that authority between POTUS and Congress. Guess what just happened? www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
SCOOP: Proton Mail provided Swiss authorities with payment data that the FBI then used to determine who was allegedly behind an anonymous account affiliated with the Stop Cop City movement in Atlanta, according to a court record reviewed by 404 Media.
'tis the season for extremely high energy bills ๐ if you're looking at your utility statement in NYC and shedding a tear, here's why:
When we talk about Baby Boomers not getting off the stage: In 1997, the US president was born in 1946.
In 2007, the US president was born in 1946.
In 2017, the US president was born in 1946.
And next year in 2027? The US president will have been born in 1946.
The Vera Institute just named a new president: Insha Rahman.
I spoke with Insha last night about her new role, her work on bail reform in NY state rand the importance of paying attention to the politics โ not just the policy โ of criminal justice reform. www.cityandstateny.com/nyn-media/20...
This court specifically avoided bringing up challenges on bans for gender affirming care for trans youth on parental rights grounds so they can weaponize parental rights against trans youth while stripping them from the supportive parents of trans youth. It's obscene.

Here's the order: www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/25p...
SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES No. 25A914 NICOLE MALLIOTAKIS, ET AL. v. MICHAEL WILLIAMS, ET AL. ON APPLICATION FOR STAY No. 25A915 PETER KOSINSKI, ET AL. v. MICHAEL WILLIAMS, ET AL. ON APPLICATION FOR STAY [March 2, 2026] The applications for stay presented to JUSTICE SOTOMAYOR and by her referred to the Court are granted. The January 21, 2026 order entered by the Supreme Court of the State of New York, New York County, Index No. 164002/2025, is stayed pending the disposition of the appeal in the New York state courts and disposition of a petition for a writ of certiorari in this Court, if such a writ is timely sought. Should certiorari be denied, this stay shall terminate automatically. In the event certiorari is granted, the stay shall terminate upon the issuance of the mandate of this Court.
JUSTICE SOTOMAYOR, with whom JUSTICE KAGAN and JUSTICE JACKSON join, dissenting from grant of stay. The Court's 101-word unexplained order can be summarized in just 7: "Rules for thee, but not for me." Time and again, this Court has said that federal courts have limited jurisdiction. Time and again, this Court has said that federal courts should not interfere with state-court litigation. Time and again, this Court has said that federal courts should not meddle with state election laws ahead of an elec-tion. Today, the Court says: except for this one, except for this one, and except for this one. Ignoring every limit on federal courts' authority, the Court takes the unprecedented step of staying a state trial court's decision in a re-districting dispute on matters of state law without giving the State's highest court a chance to act. Because that order violates basic principles of jurisdiction, federalism, and equity, I respectfully dissent.
BREAKING: SCOTUS blocks New York state court redistricting order, over the strong dissent of the Democratic appointees.

NEW: More evidence that those who tried to overturn the results of the 2020 election are working with Trump administration officials to set the rules for the 2026 midterms. @dougbockclark.bsky.social
Pres Trump told me tonight the US had identified possible candidates to take over Iran, but they were killed in the initial attack. "The attack was so successful it knocked out most of the candidates," Trump told me. "It's not going to be anybody that we were thinking of because they are all dead. Second or third place is dead."

it is a foregone conclusion that yelling at the tiger will not produce any positive results. the fact that people are yelling at the democrats is actually a positive sign: it means they still believe there is a sliver of a chance they will wake up and become an opposition party
my problem with these takes, is it's like imagine if you were being attacked by a tiger at the zoo, and the zookeeper was over there kinda halfheartedly going "hey. come on now. get off him" and you went HEY WHAT THE FUCK! and the zookeeper went "uh don't oyu think you should be angry at the tiger?"

One good thing I will say for Spectrum: I was dreading have to call them to cancel service, but the sales rep was really nice and understanding. He didn't try to bullshit me or beg me to stay, asked about the issues I'd had with Spectrum and was able to quickly disconnect my Spectrum service.
The Spectrum router had been in the office (which was good because it meant I could plug Ethernet into my PC) but the tech was able to plug one end of the existing coaxial cable into the router and the other into a WiFi extender in the office, so it worked out great. No complaints so far.
The installation was fairly painless. I was worried since I'm in an apartment, but the Verizon tech just came Thursday morning, drilled a hole in the wall (right next to the hole for the Spectrum cable) and ran Fiber from a box in the backyard into the living room where he set up the router.
UPDATE: I switched to FiOS last week and then canceled Spectrum. It's been great so far. I'm paying $75/mo for 1 gig service, which really is about 900Mbps speed over Ethernet for both uploading and downloading, though it's a bit slower (~700Mbps) over WiFi.
@diplomatofnight.com Were you surprised to see the Saudis were secretly pushing the U.S. to attack Iran?
The only way this will it lead the U.S. to restrain Israel is if it discredits current U.S. leadership and results in anti-Israel forces winning control of state power.
Itโs surprising because it had seemed like Saudi Arabia was becoming more concerned about Israel than Iran over the last year or two. Supporting an illegal US/Israeli war on Iran seems like a bit shift in strategy.
Cuban Embassy in US @EmbaCubaUS Statement by @CarlosFdeCossio , Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, to the national and foreign press. Havana, February 26, 2026: "Yesterday, our authorities reported an attempted infiltration for terrorist purposes by 10 individuals on a vessel registered in the state of Florida, United States. From the outset, and having detected that the vessel came from U.S. territory, Cuban authorities have maintained communication about this terrorist attempt with their U.S. counterparts, including the State Department and the Coast Guard. An investigation is underway to clarify the facts with the utmost rigor. The Cuban government is willing to exchange information with the United States on this matter. Among other requests, we will ask the US authorities for information on those involved, the means used, and other details through the existing mechanisms. The US government authorities have shown their willingness to cooperate in clarifying the facts.
It should be noted that the 10 individuals involved in the incident are as follows: Cristian Ernesto Acosta Guevara, Conrado Galindo Sariol, Josรฉ Manuel Rodrรญguez Castellรณ, Leordan Enrique Cruz Gรณmez, Amijail Sรกnchez Gonzรกlez, Roberto รlvarez รvila y Pavel Alling Peรฑa, Michael Ortega Casanova, Lediรกn Padrรณn Guevara y Hector Duani Cruz Correa, the latter four deceased. In initial reports, Rolando Roberto Azcorra Consuegra was mistakenly identified as a member of the group, although he is not, despite being known for his history of violent actions and intentions against Cuba. As previously reported, the items seized on the boat included weapons, such as assault rifles, sniper rifles, pistols, Molotov cocktails, and multiple pieces of assault equipment, including night vision equipment, bulletproof vests, assault bayonets, camouflage clothing, ammunition of various calibers, combat rations, communication equipment, and a large number of insignia from counterrevolutionary terrorist organizations. This information is still preliminary. More details will be provided in the coming days. This is not an isolated incident. Cuba has been the victim of attacks and countless terrorist acts for more than 60 years, most of which have been organized, financed, and carried out from the territory of the United States.
In recent years, Cuban authorities have denounced the increase in violent and terrorist plans and actions against Cuba, and the sense of impunity that prevails among the organizers and perpetrators in the face of inaction against them. The Cuban authorities have regularly provided the US government with information on individuals who, in recent years, have been involved in promoting, financing, and organizing violent and terrorist acts against Cuba. This information includes the National List of individuals and entities that have been subject to criminal investigations and are wanted by the Cuban authorities for their involvement in acts of terrorism. It is drawn up in accordance with Resolution 1373 of the United Nations Security Council, the norms and principles of international law, and the national legal system. Two of the perpetrators, Amijail Sรกnchez Gonzรกlez and Leordan Enrique Cruz Gรณmez, are included in this list, which was shared with the United States in 2023 and 2025, and enjoyed impunity within US territory. The Cuban government is still awaiting responses to requests for information about them and the other individuals and organizations included in the list issued. Anti-Cuban groups operating in the United States resort to terrorism as an expression of their hatred against Cuba and the impunity they believe
Anti-Cuban groups operating in the United States resort to terrorism as an expression of their hatred against Cuba and the impunity they believe they enjoy. Cuba reaffirms its absolute and categorical commitment against all acts, methods, and practices of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Our country maintains an exemplary record in combating terrorism and has fulfilled and will continue to honor the commitments it has made in this area. Cuba is a State Party to the 19 international conventions on terrorism, pursuant to which it has implemented legal and institutional measures aimed at effectively combating this scourge. Cuba has a duty and responsibility to protect its territorial waters. Our actions are consistent with international law, which applies to all countries, including the United States itself. It is also part of the Cuban state's national defense as an indispensable pillar for the protection of our sovereignty, the life, security, and well-being of Cubans".
Cuba says it was in communication with the U.S. Coast Guard amid the speedboat attack and is exchanging information.
Cuba also says it reported two of the terrorists to the US in 2023 and 2025 but the U.S. didnโt act on the information.
