Curious about how trauma is talked about online?
Hereβs our NEW preprint about #PTSD content on TikTok -my 2nd first-author paper!
1/3 of surveyed content contained misleading info, biggest risk = discouragement re: prognosis.

Emerging studies reveal that the brain & body maintain continuous communication via the Vagus nerve. In the Spring 2025 #FBINewsletter, Learn More about how a racing heart, increased breathing, or altered metabolism, informs the brain about #Stress π reports.mountsinai.org/article/fbis...
You might have heard that psychology has a WEIRD problem. Though it aims to understand human minds, many of its studies have historically been skewed towards WEIRD minds.
In this π¨NEW PAPERπ¨, @kristinandrews.bsky.social and I argue that comparative cognition also has a WEIRD problem. π𧡠1/17
In ~2 weeks I'll begin launching my lab, the Brain Lesion and Neuromodulation Lab! I'm looking to fill 2 roles: 1 RA & 1 postdoc. If you're interested in intracranial electrical stimulation, lesion-deficit mapping, and/or neuropsychology, reach out! Official postings to come.
Over the next 25 years, if proposed cuts in NIH funding are made real, βIn a population of more than 340 million, this reflects **82 million** fewer years of life.β
In the US alone.

My @sciencehomecoming.bsky.social editorial about the importance of federal scientific funding was published today in the Babylon Beacon, my hometown newspaper on Long Island. www.babylonbeacon.com/articles/new...
I had SO much fun giving my last didactic presentation today for my internship teaching requirements. As a soon-to-be UF alum I had to bring it back (to the future!) with the BPA. I genuinely believe I have the coolest job.

Bringing science out of the lab and into the community is critical, now more than ever. Canβt wait to check out the rest of the ongoing exhibit at the Guggenheim.
I am also an artistically-inclined neuro person moving to Pitt in August! See you around perhaps!

Remembering Dr. Alan Hart for Pride, trans man from the early 1900s. He revolutionized the detection of tuberculosis, saved thousands of lives, and died using his name, as the man he always was meant to be.

βYou work so hard to put yourself in a position where you donβt have to worry, and then thatβs taken away from you,β said Camila Valderrama-MartΓnez...She can get a job, but that βtakes away time from my research and my time in lab and focusing on my studies and my thesis.β π§ͺ
Scientists,
I am asking us to do something that goes against our nature:
Step away from fine-grained, nuanced arguments. Zoom WAY out. Share the big picture. Donβt soften the seriousness of this moment with βxxx may be ok in xxx circumstancesβ talk.
Itβs uncomfortable AND necessary.
APS and psychological scientists from seven states (AZ, GA, MA, PA, TN, TX, VA) are headed to the Capitol this morning to advocate for #NSF and #NIH funding.

Honored to be a part of this panel addressing financial elder abuse, a significant and important issue in our country. Grateful for the work of the National Center on Elder Abuse to protect and advocate for all of us so that we can age with dignity and financial stability. Link here: bit.ly/3FclBTv

Itβs worth saying again, but with notes: Alzheimerβs Studies Are Diversifying (which is a scientific necessity because Black older adults are 2x & Latinos 1.5x more likely to get it, pointing to social determinants of health as important for dementia). WILL SCIENTISTS BE ABLE TO FINISH THE JOB?
3/9 The most surprising aspect of this work is not only that 8 laboratories have collaborated to contrast both proposals, but also that the main proponents of both theories have agreed on a series of predictions to test them : )

-ADHD meds
I have sent my first query email to write an op-ed for my hometown newspaper as part of @sciencehomecoming.bsky.social and I am nervous but very excited! I believe in this so much - there is such a need for scientists to connect with their communities. Fingers crossed!!!

This research has advanced care of conditions like Alzheimerβs Disease, TBI & PTSD.
