I don't see Series X/S gaining momentum this late in the generation, with prices this high. And hardly anyone wants a next-gen that's just the same thing with better graphics. They do need to try something new.

It's on my marketing list.

DuckDuckGo has an AI filter you can enable. It's not perfect but it does reduce them.

Ooh, like Valheim. That's nice.

It's pretty easy when you know color theory.

It's very optimized, but only for spherical rats in a vacuum.

Learned DX12 and Metal and started building an engine as a side project as I work towards shipping the Unity game.

Of course you can replace most of the engine and do it properly, but I feel like the cost of using Unity outweighs the benefit once you have to do that.

Unless you ship on mobile, that is. I wouldn't want to deal with Android support myself.

I felt like the engine wasn't really working for the kind of games I make. Few features scale to open world requirements. It was clear to see the hard limitations the engine imposes.

After the cancellation of the new terrain system, it became clear it wasn't going to improve.

They're dropping HDRP as well.

I'd have been gutted if I hadn't already given up on Unity becoming a good engine for bigger games.

One day we will be rid of FBX and the interchange problems it brings.

I have this scene, it's in .gltf. It was made in Godot. It imports into Blender, Unity, and my own engine without issue.

It's also available in FBX format and all three of these programs fail to import it properly.

Any non-trivial coding tests just act as a filter to purge good candidates on a bad day.

I don't think gamers even particularly care about the fidelity of assets, as long as it's coherent. High fidelity only makes it harder for things to hold up under scrutiny.

Imagine how much less criticism Bethesda would get for their animations if they didn't look like photorealistic skin puppets.

Not twenty?

Fortnite, Destiny 2, Grounded 2, Sea of Thieves, Fallout 76, Rust, PUBG, ARC Raiders, Apex Legends, Counter Strike 2, Dota 2, GTA Online, Delta Force, League of Legends, Overwatch, War Thunder, Marvel Rivals, DayZ, Battlefield 6, Palworld.

Maybe Sony is just bad at it.

Live service games are still among the most successful. They just have to actually appeal to people.

What keeps puzzling me is how games like this make it out of pre-production with such unappealing concepts. This fantasy-cowboy Overwatch vibe doesn't work at all, why did they make a whole game?

This was such a pain in app development. We'd have to take a full day out of our schedule just to publish an update to iOS because the pipeline broke each time.

Guess your designers aren't creative enough, because I've heard a lot of impossible app ideas over the years!
Here's a share of reasons I remember:
- Mathematically proven to be impossible
- Operating system wouldn't allow it
- Would've broken the laws of physics
- Obviously illegal

The huge investment one puts into a game engine was a big driver in moving me away from Unity.
Sure, it's costly to do it for the next game, but it will be even more expensive later.

That said, I'm not sure I could afford to do it if my primary income relied on it.

90s GPU’s:
Hey, want to render a 3D model? Sure, where do you want it? Do you want lighting?

Today’s hardware:
You better describe perfectly what every single pixel is going to look like using no less than 12,000 lines of code or I will crash.

It's kinda funny how everyone pretended MMORPG's are still a staple of gaming. Like how the AI bros are currently pretending everything is Skyrim.

In my brief experience, it breaks unless you use the exact version of the exact distro they support.

Plus it's even buggier than it is on Windows, which is already borderline unusable.

Imagine how different the generation would've gone if their 2021 looked like this.

I love item descriptions. They leave so much opportunity for dry sarcasm.

Should be noted that none of the other 3D software I tested exhibited this issue - unless the model had passed through Blender at any point.

I’ve dealt with rigging / parenting issues in Blender for a while.
I built a debugging project and tried:
- BetterFBX
- Filing a bug report with Unity
- Every single export setting.

Conclusion; Blender just does parenting wrong. I gave up in the end. Maybe just correct it in Unity, in your case.

DuckDuckGo has an AI filter. Works sometimes.

They were dependent on Hasbro giving them the okay to use the license (undoubtedly within terms that restricted their creative freedom), and dependent on a cash injection from Tencent.

And one can question whether creative freedom can ever truly exist when so much money is being thrown around.

Been working on voxel ray-tracing again lately, this time using a BVH2 TLAS and SVT64 (64tree) BLAS(s). The heat gradient in the video shows the step count from 0 to 128. This scene contains 256 voxel dragons, each model is 256^3 voxels :)
