How did this happen? (The book is "Strategies of Fantasy" by Brian Attebery, not "Strategies of Attebery: Fantasy.")

That could be either The Falling Astronauts or Beyond Apollo (like I said, a bit samey). The latter is his masterpiece. Galaxies (an outlier in his work with a heavy dose of metafiction) is the other one I would try before giving up. Both quite short!

Malzberg is samey, but his best work is really great. A bit like Vance or Cabell in that respect, albeit no other respects whatsoever.

Punched out of The Three-Body Problem after forty pages or so due to disliking the writing, although I did wonder if the translation might be a factor.
