We are not beating the "median system" allegations any time soon.
This does create weird issues, like in the recent Shogakukan article, where we have to talk about ourself in the majestic plural when talking about decisions we took as an editor, and then I have to talk about myself in the singular for decisions I took as a writer.
Our pronouns are marked as "editorial they/them" because, while SP Press is usually just one person (Isabelle), sometimes it's not (for instance, we had a guest article from Andrea Fogel a while back), so we're keeping the personae separate in case it becomes more relevant in future.
We published a new article today, slightly out of our usual scope: we're covering the Shogakukan affair, a massive media blow-up around a major Japanese publishing concern's continued employment of two men convicted of child sexual abuse. severalproblems.press/2026/03/06/t...

If we wanted to receive hundreds more ads for gambling and crypto we'd just make another Gmail account
You'd really think that if Akismet were an effective anti-spam plugin, we wouldn't have to personally sort and filter so much spam.
Hey everyone. The site was down for a while because I'm a broke bitch and went delinquent on payments to my webhost. It's back now. Thanks for your understanding. β Isabelle @eigenvectrix.myatproto.social
> the survivor for coming forward publicly, especially given how extensively and relentlessly nav has already punished the survivor and everyone around her for daring to even name the abuse *in private.*
but it's become clear that keeping quiet only gives nav license to keep punishing her and me.
the survivor is being extremely brave. she knows that nav is in possession of all her PII, and especially her intimate images, and that nav has already shown a willingness to use them to hurt her. up until now we have kept quiet out of concern about how nav will escalate and retaliate against >
please read the thread and attached document. itβs short and mostly images. some of you already know this because navreen tagged you in their harassment and stalking efforts, but nav is the reason i deactivated my account and have been gone the last several weeks.

It came after a similarly fiery motion was debated and passed on Saturday, expressing support for young transgender people affected by the state government's pause on public doctors prescribing puberty blockers for new adolescent patients. An amendment called for people diagnosed with gender dysphoria to be given counselling before accessing treatment, but that was ultimately voted down.
The Queensland Labor right faction attempted to pass a motion during the Queensland Labor conference to impose the criminalised act of conversion therapy in Queensland upon all new trans people. They were voted down.

To preference cis people at the expense of trans people in this way is cissexism. It demonstrates just how entrenched this bigotry is within academia and medical professional spheres even within trans people in those fields and I think they should be ashamed of themselves for pushing this on us.
While the ABS guidance suggests caution when inferring sex from sex-at-birth because it can change over one's lifetime, I have never seen a single academic or clinician apply this caution in practice (because the categories are usually interchangeable for them, their subjects, and their patients).
The reason for doing so per the Australian Bureau of Statistics guidance is that split sex/gender categories confuse cis people and they treat the categories as interchangeable (because the categories usually are interchangeable for them).
Sample page for the 2026 census showing "sex at birth" and "gender" questions
The new questions for the Australian census next year really aren't any better than the last mess regarding trans people. In fact, they will more effectively erase the lives of trans people. The sex question has been replaced with "sex at birth". I'll explain why this is an issue. π§΅

An excerpt from our article on UPenn, describing the ways they've decided to collaborate with the Trump administration. The text reads as follows: "* falsifying UPenn's NCAA Division I women's 'swimming records, titles, or similar recognitions' to indicate that those which were received by a transfem athlete were actually received by the cis woman athlete who would have received them if no trans women had been allowed to compete; * issuing a public statement that: ** trans women will not be allowed to compete as women and that they will not be allowed to use correctly gendered UPenn locker rooms and other gendered facilities; ** UPenn will 'adopt ... definitions' of the words 'male' and 'female' which treat an individual's 'male' or 'female' status as being determined by their sex assigned at birth; * posting that statement 'in a prominent location its main website and on each of its websites for women's athletics'; * 'rescind[ing] any guidance ... [and] remov[ing] or revis[ing] any internal and public-facing statements or documents' that treat trans people as having their correct gender, and notifying 'all staff and women's athletics of all such rescissions'; and * sending personalised letters of apology to Paula Scanlan and any other anti-trans activists on the UPenn swimming team."
We aren't terribly happy that a lot of reporting on this has reproduced the wording used by the Trump administration and its courtier journalists verbatim, because that normalises their worldview. Here is our description of UPenn's collaboration agreement, which we believe is more factually correct

The comment body reads: "This platform allows you to get in touch with experts for temporary hazardous missions. You can easily arrange support for specialized needs. We've blocked out the href value (the actual target of the hyperlink) while leaving in the rest. The display text for the link is "hire a killer". Well ... as spam we've received goes, this is definitely among the more worrying
