We need a global assessment of avoidable climate-change risks
To understand the urgency of emissions reductions, policymakers and citizens need a full analysis of what is at stake.
Policymakers & citizens are aware of these risks, but not how severe they will be, how rapidly they might emerge or which are avoidable. Government leaders need to know the severity & urgency of such risks to help them make well-informed decisions and set priorities.

Critics decry Trump pulling US out of UN climate treaty as 'a new low'
Experts say withdrawing from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is a "strategic blunder" for the US.
In a Presidential Memorandum signed yesterday (7 January), the POTUS says it is βcontrary to the interests of the USβ to remain a member of, participate in, or provide support to more than 60 international organisations, treaties, and conventions.

2025: The year the US gave up on climate, and the world gave up on us
While the U.S. sits in self-imposed isolation, the rest of the world, led by China, raced to build renewables and commit to climate action.
βs the year comes to a close, 2025 looks like a turning point in the worldβs fight against climate change. Most conspicuously, it was the year the U.S. abandoned the effort. The Trump administration pulled out of the 2015 Paris Agreementβ¦

Collapse of key Atlantic current could bring extreme drought to Europe for centuries, study finds. @swinda.bsky.social
That's an under-appreciated impact of #AMOC shutdown, of particular concern given the recent results showing much higher likelihood of this. 1/2

The study used historical data to project how changes in temperatureand rainfall will affect economic growth.
However, researchers have since found errors in economic data from Uzbekistan from 1995 to 1999, which hugely skewed their findings.

Solar geoengineering in wrong hands could wreak climate havoc, scientists warn
Blocking the sun may reduce global heating β but βrogue actorβ could cause drought or more hurricanes, report finds
Solar geoengineering could increase the ferocity of North Atlantic hurricanes, cause the Amazon rainforest to die back and cause drought in parts of Africa if deployed above only some parts of the planet by rogue actors, a report has warned.

People who seek to contradict climate research online often adopt the aesthetics of science while portraying climate advocates as emotional and irrational, says sociologist Anton TΓΆrnberg, who analysed thousands of posts by key players in the climate-denial movement in Sweden.

Threats of Weather Disasters for Drug Manufacturing Facilities in the US
This study assesses the frequency with which climate-related disaster events affected counties with US drug production facilities.
Nearly two-thirds of US pharmaceutical mfg facilities are located in disaster-prone areas, with 6,819 production sites affected by weather emergencies between 2019-2024. Hurricane Helene recently triggered nationwide IV fluid shortages after damaging a key facility.

Major climate change reports are removed from U.S. websites
The White House, which was responsible for the assessments, said the information will be housed within NASA to comply with the law, but gave no further details.
Legally mandated U.S. national climate assessments seem to have disappeared from the federal websites built to display them, making it harder for state and local governments and the public to learn what to expect in their backyards from a warming world.

Right around the time when the AMOC collapses(causing devastating crop failures in northern latitudes) and ocean pH drops below the ability for oxygen producing phytoplankton to survive (collapsing the ocean food web leading to global starvation).
