I know we keep focusing on Colbert and Kimmel as we should, but we also need to remember there are hundreds of people who work for these shows who also just lost their jobs because of this bullshit, and most of them are probably not millionaires.

John Boyne says LGBTQ+ fiction prize backlash brought him β€˜close to the edge’ Gender-critical novelist urges writers to re-enter prize they boycotted and may ask judges not to shortlist his novella

Feel like this little sob story *could* have mentioned that Boyne's Polari nomination came five days after he wrote a piece referring to trans-inclusive women as the evil wives in the Handmaid's Tale, "ready to pin a handmaiden down as her husband rapes her".

it appears that @bsky.app have suspended the account of @jessiegender because a trans person saying "I wish ill on JK Rowling" is against the rules, so let me say with my loud cis voice that I too wish ill on all perpetrators of hate speech against trans people

reinstate Jessie, this is ridiculous

"biological sex" is the idea that being born with a vulva makes you female, until it doesn't because you were too good at sports.

I love this thread. Gets to the heart of the bizarre ways these Disney remakes are at once unimaginative photocopies of their animated classics that *also* bafflingly misunderstand the emotional core of the original films.

There is one specific scene in Lilo and Stitch that was changed that I think fundamentally led to every other decision they made in that movie.

In both Lilo and Stitch movies there is a scene right before Stitch falls from the sky like a shooting star.

This is viscerally disgusting from anyone, but especially from a Labour PM. Every single person in the UK will have stories about how immigrants have made our lives, or the lives of our loved ones, immeasurably better.

It’s language like Starmer’s that causes β€˜incalculable damage’. I feel sick.

the fundamental disconnect between the manosphere and reality is that they are incapable of understanding that this is - according to every woman I’ve ever met - the sexiest thing a man has ever done

The perfect Starmerist trifecta in action: impoverishing UK institutions, with a cruel + bigoted law, that won't appease, or even be noticed by, a single racist who doesn't already vote Labour.

With zero tactical benefit, you'd almost think this Labour govt are simply very racist themselves.

John Lithgow is saying the reason he said yes to starring as Dumbledore is coz he reckons it's his last major role and will take eight years to complete. Has anyone explained to him that instead of that he could make three really good films in that time? Films for adults that aren't made by bigots?

Yeah can we stop asking politicians β€˜what is a woman?’ and start asking them β€˜what proof are you insisting women give you before you’ll let them go to the toilet?’

This is actually a really good thing but you wouldn’t know it from reading this article. Massive films being made in the UK creates literally thousands of jobs for actors, camera operators, set builders, designers and lots more inherently precarious professions

Guys, I love all of you, but the answer to RFK, Jr. is not that autistic adults hold jobs, pay taxes, and get laid, it's that everyone deserves to live even if they can't work, pay taxes, or get laid.

GPs told they 'must refuse' to support trans youth taking hormones privately Wes Streeting has recommitted to a puberty blockers ban despite an apology he made earlier this week on the matter.

This has to be against the Hippocratic Oath

You have children who need help, you know what the best treatment recommended internationally is, they're already taking it, and you're legally required not to help them at all

Really disgusting

Garron Noone is correct about Ireland becoming more dangerous.

But it's not cos of migrants, it's cos of the brainworms that Irish people have caught from the far right/conservative/fascists.

An interaction today I had in Rathmines. There are stickers like this up around Rathmines.

At some point we need to collectively decide that "Some views based on what people feel or uncritically believe rather than factual information will actually impact the safety and well-being of vulnerable people" is MORE of a societal concern than "Strangers were rude to someone they disagreed with"

It's so flipping DICKENSIAN to have people being afraid of getting too sick to work. It's Boxer going to the glue factory. It's Tiny Tim's unused crutch. It's everything Nye Bevan railed against. If you don't understand that, there's no helping you.

Reminder: Kennys Bookshop delivers for free in Ireland. Easons have free delivery over 10 euros (and also sell toys and games and stationary). Lots of lovely booksellers in the actual stores too, like Books Upstairs, Gutter Bookshop, Hodges Figgis.

Red-hot #dating advice from my Mum which I might actually start using...

"Maybe you should only ever agree to a second date after you've asked the man if he can tell you 3 things he's learnt about you during the evening."

Calling machine learning algorithms "artificial intelligence" has to be the greatest rebranding effort in history. The amount of people who legitimately think these things are some kind of futuristic new technology is incredibly depressing
