Don't mind me, just sharing a link to the HyperCard retrospective/review I posted a few months ago.

But generally I agree that those usability points have major setbacks there that feel much less burdensome here
I don't think the view of what an "average user" is the same from developers here vs there and different trade offs have been made along the way, but also interesting to see this said. There are a large amount of fediverse devs who also care about making it useable for the "average user"
so tame
Lol my quote was removed by them.
Congratulations, and I'm sure AtmosphereConf will be awesome. But also, if one of the world's most infamous enshittifiers is interested in your anti-enshittification technology you might still have some work to do re: convincing them you are an anti-enshittification technolgy.
hey @mommunism.bsky.social are you present over on the fediverse at all?
I don't think FOSDEM should be sponsored by corporate oligarchs either so not sure how much of a gotcha that is
My friend, you know not what you ask of me. If I wrote about this it would not be "ATproto conference taking Google money bad" it would be a 500 page piece called "There Is No Ethical Fundraising Under Capitalism" that people will blame me for being simultaneously overly sympathetic and damning
this is the community conference tho not Bluesky the company
Their data model is the problem as it introduces unnecessary attack vectors.
They linked payment data to the email adress and to the customer's identity. And they kept this link within their data.
posteo.de e.g. does better.
hey @dustyweb.bsky.social, you did a good job of making some meta discussion pop off about stuff last week, I feel like you weighing in here might be useful!
Been saying fuck Proton since the beginning for this exact reason. They are swindlers and a fake security product.
I would have thought you'd have a better take on this. When a community project takes dirty money the community project takes the on a certain vibe. Bluesky and ATproto already have had a huge uphill battle to get out of the mindset that it's a project run by billionaire Jack Dorsey.
Hey @skytube.video when I login and try to watch a video that's not posted by me I get this error.
Very depressing how all the comments to this are purely positive. yes always nice to get your thing sponsored and all but this is EXACTLY how big tech takes over alternative infrastructure. Google dosnt sponser open source conferences cause they believe in the movement
Lol your response to this was hidden in the "hidden replies" section
Yeah I would be interested, tho not really sure what filling out that form does
"Names and ages of children killed in strike on Iranian school"
'The children were killed in an apparent "double tap" strike, with the second missile fired killing sheltering survivors, two first responders and the parent of a child killed told Middle East Eye'

There's a focus, especially on the Fedi, around decentralizing "Bluesky". What they mean is redundancy around who/what controls the largest # of users creating + consuming the bsky.app lexicons.
While that's important, I think there's just as much power in reducing the dependency on the lexicon.
It was mostly focused on the problem of share buttons, in a world dominated by brand logos a symbol needs to work at small sizes in line with other logos like Instagram and Facebooks, and the currently over used rainbow pentagram didn't work at all for this.
I was part of a little project to introduce some new symbolism into the fediverse, and we started this manifesto that had a pretty significant impact symbol.fediverse.info
Thanks for your response and for sharing your writing on this issue. I mostly come from "the other side" also know as the fediverse and have thought a lot about different kinds of handles and how they work in various contexts. Reminded of talk about how double @@s signify fediverse handles.

Laurens Hof is at it again highlighting the problems of our lack of an adequate ActivityPub API and the hurdles that are to come in it getting adoption.

Really good article by @chrisshank.com about the politics and semantics of the @ symbol in relation to its use as a signifier of an address or person.
cause its already in use for things like representing email in large parts of the world
That's not a symbol
does the atmosphere have a symbol yet? cause its not the butterfly or the @
