We are delighted that @drscottarthurmp.bsky.social ky.social's Rare Cancers Bill has received Royal Assent!

The Rare Cancers Act will support increased research and investment into rare cancers, which have long been underfunded.

Congratulations to everyone involved who helped make this possible!

Quote text reads: There are around 3 million vegetarians in the UK, with interest in vegetarianism growing in many parts of the world. Cancer is a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly one in six deaths. Dietary patterns that prioritise fruit, vegetables, and fibre-containing foods, and avoid processed meat, are recommended to reduce cancer risk. Our study helps to shed light on the benefits and risks associated with vegetarian diets.

Support for alcohol policies and its association with knowledge of alcohol-related health consequences: findings from 5 EU countries Abstract. Understanding how knowledge of alcohol-related harms relates to policy support can inform strategies to increase acceptance of alcohol policies.

New EU study finds that knowing alcohol causes cancer is linked to greater support for pricing, availability & point-of-sale restrictions - the very policies that usually face the lowest backing.

πŸ“’ After alcohol-specific deaths reached record highs in Northern Ireland, the AHA sent a joint letter to the First and Dept First Minister calling for urgent action to save lives.

We call for minimum unit pricing, alongside mandatory labelling, increased alcohol duty and better treatment access.

The UK’s junk food ad ban: a cautionary tale | World Cancer Research Fund Why are marketing restrictions on junk food particularly tricky to get over the line despite benefits to public health and cancer prevention?

It's been over a month since the UK's junk food advertising restrictions came into force.

Many will know they aren't as robust as they should be - the sweeping brand exemption being a key weakness.

But why is advertising regulation so tricky?

I explore this in my latest blog πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ’» bit.ly/4a8a6Jw

Obesity and alcohol are two key risk factors for cancer, which is why we were delighted to see the Chancellor expand the soft drinks levy and increase alcohol duty in today’s Budget.

The forthcoming National Cancer Plan must build on these welcome steps by placing prevention at its heart.

Men's health strategy launched by government with support of Premier League The strategy's announcement coincides with International Men's Day and Movember - the annual campaign encouraging people to grow a moustache and raise money for men's health initiatives.

Today’s Men’s Health Strategy recognises cancer as a significant health issue for men.

We’re pleased to see new commitments on community health & prostate cancer testing, but stronger action is needed on cancer risk factors like alcohol.
