squeakross steam review: It's January 3rd. I'm over 100 hours in to Squeakross. My husband begs me to turn off the game. Please come to bed, he says. Spend time with family, it's the new year. I do not. I am part of Squeakross. I see the numbers, I fill in the boxes. I've gotten better, faster. I'm solving puzzles, I tell my loved ones. I'm getting smarter. The hours pass in the blink of an eye. It does not matter. One more Squeakross. One more. And one more. My stomach cries out at me for sustenance. I ignore it. The only nutrition I need comes in the form of nonograms. From Squeakross. There is no escape from Squeakross, for this is no prison. I am, finally, free.

Games have been released for months, for years before Stable Diffusion and ChatGPT and the like came into the public. Your game could have been completed without AI-generated assets. You could have (and still can): cut out the sections that didn't have finished artwork used premade assets from sites like itch.io (right here) that weren't AI-generated used placeholder assets Using AI-generated assets is a choice, and that was the choice you made. We don't accept games that use AI generation.

One of the fiew games from my friend @crescendotto.com that I hadn't played before this year. Another short and heartwarming one, it has very simple gameplay, but it has heart. It was comforting in a moment when I, like the protagonist Ofelia, had to say goodbye to my own nonna.
