#CecileRichards wasnβt just a fierce advocate for reproductive rights β she was a beacon of hope for so many. I was so lucky to serve on the Planned Parenthood Board while she was president. To honor Cecileβs legacy, letβs keep fighting for the freedom and justice that everyone deserves.
βIf we aggregate the revenues of all middlemen in healthcare, it will be well north of one trillion dollars or nearly 4% of our entire GDP.β

Me, a public health person, just sitting over here reflecting on the fact that the US has experienced a 7% increase in infant mortality post-Dobbs.
Like, do you realize what that says about this society from an ethical perspective? That we made policy choices that caused this?

Vinay Prasad: I remember when many in the mainstream media criticized his decision to buy Twitter for 44 billion. They called it a waste. Looks like he's going to get the greatest return on investment by shaping the election and the fate of the 21st century.
Waitβ¦so he admits a billionaire bought Twitter to influence the election? #MedSky

Proponents of Medicare Advantage say the private plans offer more compelling services than the government and better manage the costs of care. Critics note that Medicare Advantage plans have a long history of costing taxpayers more than the traditional program. UnitedHealth, CVS, and Cigna are all substantial players in the Medicare Advantage market. It's not always a good relationship with the government. The Department of Justice filed a 2017 complaint against UnitedHealth alleging the company used false information to inflate charges to the government. The case is ongoing.
Dr. Oz will likely expand Medicare Advantage, where commercial insurers provide coverage by contracting with Medicare.

So true that many of these AI studies are simulations and not real patients.
A reminder that Dr. Oz promoted hydroxychloroquine for COVID, which had little evidence.

Agree, Iβm using AI tools to augment and expedite my work + decrease administrative tasks. Seems unlikely to replace PCPs.
Sooo helpful, thanks! Can I be added?
The chatbot, from the company OpenAI, scored an average of 90 percent when diagnosing a medical condition from a case report and explaining its reasoning. Doctors randomly assigned to use the chatbot got an average score of 76 percent. Those randomly assigned not to use it had an average score of 74 percent. The study showed more than just the chatbotβs superior performance. It unveiled doctorsβ sometimes unwavering belief in a diagnosis they made, even when a chatbot potentially suggests a better one.
AI outperforms doctors in multiple studies - and is often rated higher in empathy, too. Thoughts from #MedSky? www.nytimes.com/2024/11/17/h...
