Sarky, not snarky. Human factors professional, with side interest in Dobcross looms, European train journeys, MG cars, and finding footpaths in Mid Wales. Occasionally dabbles in Anglican liturgy, although it's probably best not to ask.

Even now, his accent of Nelson's Column stands out as an act of extreme bravery.

Let me guess which other country with "United" in its name slows the data the other way.

Section 31 is to Star Trek as Code 9 is to Spooks.

Just a small sample of the frogspawn that we saw in puddles and all around puddles, too.

Theee is a standing stone shown on the map, at the junction of two ancient bridleways. This appears to be it.

Today, we had a pleasant 18km hike around the local hills, with red kite overhead and frogspawn under foot. 5.5 hours, and back in time for tea and welshcakes!

Have you seen pictures of the original "beehive" terminal at Gatwick Airport? That is quite lovely, and a clever way to integrate the lookout tower into the design.

Also: Brighton City Airport? Shoreham Airport, surely. Brighton wasn't even a city until 2001, as part of "Brighton and Hove ".

Realtime Trains | 1525 Manchester Piccadilly to Bournemouth | 26/02/2026 Real-time train running information for 1525 departure from Manchester Piccadilly to Bournemouth on 26/02/2026. From Realtime Trains, an independent source of train running info for Great Britain.

I'm on the 1525 service from Manchester to Bournemouth, which only has four carriages today. Every seat is taken and almost everyone with a reservation has had to oust someone from their seat, and the vestibules (crumple zones) are packed. There must be enough people to fill another set.

Why is the Republican Party called the GOP, and is there an equivalent for the Democratic Party?

Just arrived in Manchester and I went straight to my favourite Barber in the Northern Quarter.
It's been turned into a convenience store. I'm bereft.

KΓΆln to Hamburg is quicker if you change in Hannover. However, the previous direct train was running 50 minutes late so was the better option in the end.

Shorter journey times, but with an extra change is another oddity of German trains.

I just finished the book on Saturday. Even knowing the legend didn't prepare me for the impact of reading it in your book.

I've just found out that Herbie Flowers died in September 2024 and I'm sad that his death passed me by, considering his prolific contribution to the global music scene.
Famous for his "Tuba Smarties ", he also did the bass line on "Walk on the wild side " and on War of the Worlds.
