Iran’s people were facing a horrible shortage of water before the war began. If we are destroying desalination plants and setting fire to Teheran we are committing unfathomable crimes.
BREAKING: The US has bombed Tehran’s main refinery and burning oil is now flooding down the streets into the city’s sewers.
This is a vision from hell, unleashed by the US tonight.

Multiple news outlets are reporting a US attack on an Iranian #desalination plant.
If verified, this violates international law protecting #water systems during wars, and it sets a dangerous precedent, given intense dependence of Gulf countries on desalination.

What's the difference between Vietnam and Iran?
Trump had a plan for getting out of Vietnam....
Staff at the nation’s largest Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention facility have placed bets on which detainee will be the next to die by suicide, according to new reporting from the Associated Press based on 911 calls and detainee accounts.
I’m skeptical of timeline, ability to protect privacy and whether harms are mediated by age (vs. engagement algorithms). Trust also takes time.
Parents unwilling to supervise their own children have no business trying to supervise other adults as they access information and express themselves.
Yes, but it won’t happen until after.
The international community will have to keep the pressure on. US instinct will be to set accountability aside in the interest of unity/healing.
Should also demand repeal of ASPA (Hague Invasion Act).

Agreed, it will take a team. But in the end, you only have one president and they’re going to have to wear the mantle for all of it.
The things that need to be done will be difficult (reform), ugly (accountability), and out of character (apology/amends). You’ll only have one shot. Don’t flinch.
A promotional graphic for the EU-Canada Digital Trade Agreement featuring the circular flags of the European Union and Canada side-by-side. The text "EU-CANADA DIGITAL TRADE AGREEMENT" is displayed in white capital letters over a scenic background of a turquoise mountain lake, likely Lake Louise in Canada, with snow-capped peaks reflected in the water.
We've launched negotiations with Canada for a Digital Trade Agreement.
This will make it easier and safer to do [EU-CA] business online and across borders and provide stronger protections for consumers↓

Some people are dying. Many more are being murdered by the United States of America.

For some, the words unconditional surrender lead to one vivid historical fact. We cannot continue to discount the risks of nuclear use by the President.

Should have gone with Pickin’ Boogers instead. At least there would be laughs.
Israeli attacks on UNIFIL peace keepers tonight. Irish service men were not directly hit, but they aided their counterparts from Ghana. This will further deteriorate Irish Israel relations.
Pete Hegseth claims Donald Trump has renamed the map of North America.
Prior to the Ukraine invasion, Putin used the same tactics. He claimed that Ukraine was not an independent nation - just part of greater Russia.
Fuck your greater America Trump. You are a criminal.
I could see Van Hollen as having international credibility for the apology tour. But too soft and too old.
I could see a Newsom or Pritzker failing at all 3.
Tough part is either finding someone who can do it all or convincing 3 wildly different people to work together and stay in their lanes.
I could see, say, AOC as a great reformer but not up to task at terminal accountability.
I could see a hawkish ex republican setting up a tribunal to permanently remove the threat of coup plotters/backers. But not thoughtful enough for reform or making nice with former allies.
Defeat doesn’t need to be political, but does need to be overwhelming.
The tricky part is getting an administration capable of terminal accountability, lasting reform, and a worldwide apology tour.
Hard to see any one person able to do it all.
The American political class is utterly delusional, adrift in a dream of normality, unable to process the actual reality of events on the ground, where the US just launched a completely unprovoked war against a massive country, murdered its leadership, and demanded its conversion to a vassal state.
Above all else I would not try to craft a diplomatic statement on Bluesky’s maddening UI ising my phone!
Instead what we see is a takedown of Iran while ignoring US violations of international law. Parroting justifications by US. Unrealistic expectations (complete end of nuclear/all enrichment).
Same weakness we saw on Venezuela & murders in Caribbean. Appeasement is why the world is where it is.
Reassure allies uninvolved in attack on Iran (important distinction not yet clearly made) that we will continue to stand with them and honour our commitments.
Reassure Canadians that we will never be part of joint operations with belligerents or complicit in crimes.
Focus primarily on the solution that successfully addressed threat of Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Iran was negotiating. Call for return to JCPOA, but not by name.
Complete dismantling of nuclear pgm/enrichment not realistic. Weapons program is the issue that matters.
What I would say as PM is different than what I would suggest if I were offering advice to Carney. Different worlds.
On the latter, I’d suggest a tone that neither parrots US lies (the case so far) and is not deliberately antagonizing to either side.
I’m less concerned about sending the navy to, say, escort British ships. You can read it that way, sure.
But you can also read it any number of ways that would be completely unacceptable.
They do, but there are more options now than there were before. And if we keep up the boycott the situation will improve over time.
Canadians deserve better than mealy-mouthed statements like these. It’s dishonest, not smart politics.

"U.S. military investigators believe it is likely that U.S. forces were responsible for an apparent strike on an Iranian girls' school."
"The strike would rank among the worst cases of civilian casualties in decades of U.S. conflicts in the Middle East."
Your heart is clearly in the right place, but Americans don’t really need new information or new laws so much as the will to act on information & laws you already have.
