The horrific tragedy at Brown University is the 389th mass shooting this year and the 230th gun incident on school grounds so far this year.

Late Thursday afternoon, police rushed to Villanova University over a report of an active shooter — later determined to be a hoax — searching for someone who did not exist and at one point misidentifying a victim of a gunshot wound who had not been shot, according to police scanner recordings.
Yes, Villanova was a hoax. But students still ran for their lives, still barricaded their doors, still texted loved ones what they thought might be their last words.
The students were well-trained in exactly what to do.
This is what America forces on our kids. No other country lives like this.
Police are responding to reports of an active shooter on the campus of Villanova University.
According to messages from the university’s alert system, students were instructed to lock and barricade doors and move to secure locations.
Students moved in on Wednesday.

According to Reuters, “The Trump administration has terminated more than half of all federal funding for gun violence prevention programs in the U.S., cutting $158 million in grants.”
This comes less than 48 hours after the shootings in New York, Nevada, Georgia, among others.

Illinois would benefit greatly from a true safe storage law that requires all firearms to be securely locked up when not in use. SB8 is not that bill. SB8 would not even apply to the 70% of Illinois households that don't have minor children. #needsimprovement 😐
