Off to the Gay Stuff Markets in St Kilda, hoping I don't look too straight to get in.

A woman sits on a mobility scooter on an outdoor suburban train station platform. Behind her, a Melbourne X'Trapolis passenger train in blue and yellow livery pulls into the platform. The woman is dressed in the same blue and yellow as the train, wearing a royal blue polo shirt, and a yellow beret and satiny scarf tied at the throat with the two ends hanging down. She also wears a black facemask and sunglasses.

Thank you! Was that released in the last day or so because I found no reference to the new rates other than Plibersek's media release earlier.

Or is it just some obscure corner of the DSS site I should bookmark?

It's disgusting how they always take credit for the indexation increase. The figure is pathetic for the amount costs have gone up and how long they've been in office too.

Yep. This, and stories, are the sort of magic I believe in. Shaping people and thus the world by evoking deep, deep forces.

Everyone calls music 'magic', but I mean that quite literally – music is magic, an impossible force that unites everyone who's ever heard a song at once. And singing??!? Singing is the practical expression of that magic, an added layer of human connection across all divides

Changes to social security payments from March 20 | Department of Social Services Ministers

Is it weird that Centrelink rates are meant to get an automatic cost of living increase in 15 days, and the figure hasn't been announced? It feels weird.

Pension increase is "likely" (?) $22.20, no word on Jobseeker etc. No change showing in my future payments

I don't want to overstate this. American foreign policy isn't wholly dictated by Israel, we are not naive little lambs, and our government is responsible for the choices it makes. But Israel has demonstrated a vested interest in keeping America maximally belligerent and on the hook for its wars

Bows Against the Barons Trease Geoffrey - AbeBooks Bows Against the Barons by Geoffrey Trease and a great selection of related books, art and collectibles available now at AbeBooks.com.

$US 15 on Abebooks which is expensive, but I’m sure it’s cheaper somewhere else

(I don’t know if it was explicitly meant to be Marxist, but it certainly leans that way. None of this nonsense about all the trouble happening because the rightful king isn’t around.)

Thanks for the shout out, Marky. I highly recommend a 20th century Marxist retelling of Robin Hood suitable for tweens or teens, β€œBows Against The Barons” by Geoffrey Treece.

No, says Robin, it’s not Saxons vs Normans, it’s the poor vs the lords.

I’ve been specifically corrected by SWers here in Australia when I said I support β€œlegalisation” because in that context here, that means onerous regulations, registration etc etc. As opposed to decriminalisation which means β€œget out of the way, no more rules than apply to other businesses”

That was actually an idea? Imagine how much Chiang and his underlings could have stolen. They'd have made Diem and Thieu look like rank amateurs.

EG this is how I originally published the photo upthread. I now am not happy with how hazy and faded the garden near me looks, hence the very different re-edit. Eventually I will have to practice really detailed selective editing, probably with a Wacom tablet.

Now that I have a photo website specifically to sell from, I've suddenly got very critical of the photos I want to display there. A lot of my older ones I now want to re-edit from scratch, and get rid of stuff I don't like the look of now

We stand at a bare lookout point next to Port Phillip Bay, with patchy grass and a few low bushes. We gaze towards the city in the far distance, which is framed by a bare, sparse tree leaning landwards. A boy in a puffer jacket has his back to us. Long shadows and the darkening near us tell us it is almost night, although the haze of the sunset can be seen in the west. Beyond us, on one curve of the bay, we can just make out the famous Brighton bathing boxes, dozens of them in one long row along the beach. Very faintly, we can see the Middle Brighton Pier, and the city far past it is hazy and ill-defined. If we zoom in we can just make out particular buildings, and the pylons of the Bolte Bridge.
