I feel you. The Russo Lee Gallery is such a great space. Its about a 15 min walk from where I'll be at 5, so I look forward to stopping by. :-)

Adding to the #sciart feed.
That's a good bet. It will be interested to see what they think about it this time next year. I hope the West Coast takes a 'wait and see' how BC does approach.
Totally. Help people find their way.
Agree, I love feeds. Just donβt know if users really know how to add them. Just surmising from a number of artist friends who joined but then had a hard time finding there way here.
Also, I donβt think Iβve looked for new feeds in quite a while but I remember there were a lot to sort throughβ¦
Does everyone use feeds?
I totally understand the sentiment, but research and history suggests one should go for a permanent time that aligns with circadian health.
Yes, AZ is on permanent Standard Time as is Japan and Hawaii.
Itβs the delay of sunrise in the winter that doesnβt follow the science.
If they wish things to be permanent, BC moved the wrong direction based on the consensus of whatβs best for human health.
NOGGINFEST 2026 GUEST SPEAKERS TALK: Rise and Shine: How Morning Light Can Help Sleep TOPIC: How morning bright light therapy may help improve sleep Hannah Cunningham #sleep #circadian
I find it rather ironic that Iβll be attending a talk this Saturday about the research on bright morning light on sleep and health.
Governments should really listen to scientists.

Maybe Canadian #Sleep scientists can test out if the Russian research is reproducible π
www.researchgate.net/publication/...
Russia tried this in 2011 - it only lasted until 2014 when they adopted permanent Standard Time citing increased car accidents and poor adolescent mental health.
The US tried this in 1974 and cut it short after they discovered the impact of delayed winter sunrises.
Bets on how long will it last?
Portland Science and Art lovers!
Noggin Fest is happening this weekend! Iβm super excited about the speaker line up.
An amazing free all ages event for those curious about their brains. π§

Canβt believe Noggin Fest is coming up this Saturday!
I recognize a Chris Haberman mural when I see one. :-)
In βSlow Waves in the Midnight Deepβ, a nocturnal figure descends from the top of the canvas. A wave pattern radiates through her hair, echoing the slow electrical pulses that define deep sleep. Along the edges of the work, real sleep data marks the moments when deep sleep occurred, framing the figure with evidence of the unseen. #sciart #deepsleep #painting
Deep sleep is a mysterious part of the night. It arrives early, when the heart rate slows, the body cools & the mind slips beneath awareness. This stage helps stabilize important memories.
Neurons firing together in slow, synchronized rhythms, creating low frequency delta waves across the cortex. π‘
Ugh, Iβm sorry that this is your experience.
A Sleep MD who I invited to my studio works with peri/menopausal women to help with sleep disruption symptoms such as hot flashes that come with the drop of hormones. Thereβs a growing call for more attention & research as it can be so exhausting. π₯΅π«©
Same here.
Although one of them tends to invite me to an event in the summer but never with a formal invitation like this. I replied back to him and βheβ wrote βI SENT ITβ which is not in line with his personality.
Email with blue envelope invitation with the words βyouβre invitedβ
A new phishing scam, at least for me. Twice this week Iβve received invitations that look like this from friends in completely different social circles.
Looks like a paperless post invitation but the landing page asks you to log in with your email credentials.
Have you gotten one of these?

Thank you π
Along the edges of the work, a week of real sleep data marks the moments when deep sleep occurred, framing the figure with evidence of the unseen.
I find this deep state of unconscious activity fascinating.
This painting is available at Waterstone Gallery in PDX.

In βSlow Waves in the Midnight Deepβ, my nocturnal figure descends into that hidden world. A wave pattern radiates through her hair, echoing the slow electrical pulses that define deep sleep. Sheβs not vividly dreaming so much as consolidating, holding onto what matters while the world goes quiet.

Iβve heard that. This place was an exception.
A coffee shop close to my house serves matcha sunshine. They roast their own beans which gives caramel. It ruins all other coffee.
Pregnancy super-smell is crazy! Just remember being able to smell ripe fruit and ripe garbage from quite a distance.
There are totally different matchas just like there are totally different coffee and tea experiences.
The last matcha I ordered while out was dirt and that was an odd experience in Portland where shops tend to have quality matcha.
Bad coffee though⦠can taste like dirty cigarettes.
Iβm not saying everyone. But, enough people. I mean even Thomas Kinkade has a robust audience. π
Iβve not tried, yet. I saw this moss bowl and was intrigued. Still need to go out and collect some interesting moss.
I did find these directions: terrariumtribe.com/how-to-prese...
and this video which seems pretty similar www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdI8...
So true!
At this point, Iβve been trying to figure out how best to do this without creating complex watering rituals.
(What parallel post timing ...!!)

And for whatever reason there is a growing trend to put terrariums with air plants and natural materials all over oneβs walls. Is that a Pacific Northwest thing? IDK
So, Iβm slowly turning my guest bathroom into a place of naturalist oddities.
This may help.
For those that donβt know me, this is going to occupy some part of my attention. Who knew that with a glycerin mixture you could preserve moss.
As someone who spends a fair amount of time in moss filled forests I did not think this particular moss was all that interesting.
