Yes to this!
On International women's day, tell one shitty fella off.
We need a thousand more Steve Smith's (Red Green) and Rick Mercers and zero PP's and Joe Rogan's.
I feel like 90's Canadian TV had far better shows to teach young fellas how to be good people compared to now.

Cars cost us literally hundreds of millions of dollars just in St. John's. About a hundred million per year. We just kick 80 million down the road per year.
I don't hate cars. I hate how they lose us money, space, lives and are damaging the environment.
We need viable alternatives to cars.

War wastes trillions. Highways waste hundreds of billions.
Everything else on that list is very much needed.

Do you remember the fall of Digg? I'll never forget the community raging at the 20 odd users that posted most everything that went front page, including mrbabyman. That account is forever in my head ๐
It's often small groups that make controlling conversations their job.

I feel the same way about highway expansions. A lot can be done with the money wasted on Highway lane expansions which fail to address traffic.

Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death
The capital city is Finnishโed with car-related fatalities.
โHelsinki hasnโt registered a single traffic-related fatality in the past yearโฆCiting data that shows the risk of pedestrian fatality is cut in half by reducing a carโs speed from 40 to 30km/hr, city officials imposed the lower limit in most of Helsinkiโs residential areas and city center in 2021.โ

If you see an expensive car parked illegally, ticket that mofo!!
In this case I was that mofo and I'll gladly pay a ticket. ๐
I messed up parking while helping a friend with their plumbing.

I truly believe that motor vehicles have to be classified as deadly weapons. No more 'accidents'. List attention and drive without endangering anyone.
Doing that would completely change the culture around the driving.
We also need robust expansive public transit and alternatives to cars.

I think this is a neat way to display the population. All the data comes from statistics Canada from the 2021 census.
The bottom centre of each bar is the geographic center of each population centered as defined in the Stats Canada and NL databases.
As a reminder to people, there should be a census next year. It will be a very important statistics snapshot post Covid. The Census is critical to understanding where funds are needed, and where population centres have shifted.

We also have a post here: https://streetsafp.ca/2025/11/10/immigration-is-not-a-problem-its-a-solution/
This is a map showing every single population centre as defined Provincially, from Nain to Margaree.
The bars are proportional to each-other, with a cap of the 111750 being attributed to St. John's. The bottoms of each bar are the 'centre point' of the population cluster.

Every MP should be required to watch this video or they have to abstain from voting
Understanding how complex engineering projects get detailed, pun intended, should be the default level of understanding to vote on projects of this scale.
Also loved seeing Reece in Paige's video essay for CBC! ๐คฉ

A collage of 24 books about urban and transport planning.
If our cities are shaped by stories, then great books form the foundation of knowledge and inspiration needed to build more liveable, inclusive and prosperous places.
These are 24 titles we read this year that informed our approach to changing hearts, minds and streets. An #UrbanismBookClub thread.

I feel like the engineering prioritized maintaining maximum car space during and post construction and this clearly has hurt every aspect of the project.
Hurt on time, cost, efficiency, accessibility and much more.

Dishonest or leading question surveys are bastards. I remember the federal 'first passed the post's survey from Trudeau's first term. It was completely useless. Double and triple negatives. Leading questions. Rhetorical traps.

Those are quite the #WorldSeries parking prices!
1. Itโs good that its expensive. Pricing is a really important public policy lever.
2. Itโs REALLY good that the price is much higher for โoversized vehiclesโ [they certainly are]. Again, pricing is a really important public policy lever.

Heavy rain is looking VERY likely over the Avalon and possibly the Burin Peninsulas from late Thursday into Saturday. Computer guidance, as of late Wednesday evening, suggests there is a 90 to 100% chance that most of this area sees more than 25 mm of rain. Details to follow! #nlwx
