"It has to express democracy, equality, inclusion of all people, and social justice".
Wow, I wish someone had said this to @fordnation and @StanChoMPP
Maybe we would we be getting more than a $1.04billion tourist attraction better suited for the Ex midway or Orlando

New Ontario Science
Centre building by Snohetta and Hariri Pontarini. Initial question: the government is claiming the complex is 400,000 SF, up from 275,000 two years ago. How is that not a lie?

26.02.2026 16:23 πŸ‘ 29 πŸ” 13 πŸ’¬ 8 πŸ“Œ 9

Further questions: what is the mix of exhibition space and back of house? What is the layout? Which portions of the old complex are they even occupying? No drawings of any kind. It’s total guesswork.

Remember, Doug Ford knew he was going to close the Ontario Science Centre as early as 2020.

It took six years - until February 2026 - for Doug Ford to release a design for a new one.

No shovels in the ground yet either.

Tourism, Tourism, Tourism.

Doug Ford's science centre is not for STEM education, or for Ontario families.

It is about extracting as much money from visiting American tourists, to put into the pockets of the premier's friends.

"IDEA: reimagine and reopen Ontario Science Centre in Flemingdon Park as the Future of Canada Centre:

Even after 50 MILLION visitors it was hard to appreciate how much the Ontario Science Centre contributed to the lives, careers, enterprises, and civic commonwealth of Toronto, Ontario, and Canada. But Premier Ford abruptly fenced it off and denuded it of exhibits, for an (abandoned) concept of a plan atop Therme's submarine parking garage obligation.

Since Ford has no use for Moriyama's masterpiece, it's time for a visionary partnership between the City of Toronto and the Federal Government to reimagine and reopen it as the "Future of Canada Centre". Its new mission: to curate a constantly-renewing experiential showcase of Canada's most innovative companies and universities, and to inform, delight, and inspire to STEM careers, schoolbuses-full of our kids.

PM Carney's "Canada Strong" Budget calls for generational investments in the future of Canada. What better single manifestation of this, than an all-day, one-stop expo, where we can experience together the new worlds of AI, robotics, drones, new transportation, advanced manufacturing, new energy and resources, new medicine, biotech, and agriculture, new space industries, climate change, growing up online, our changing homes, cities, and lives?

The 1970s OSC taught us math, physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, geology, ecology, but also forestry, mining, refining, hydro power, automation. So too can a new Future of Canada Centre, (re)opening fall 2028, prepare Canadians for the onrushing future."

Doug Ford shrinks Ontario Science Centre to fit in temporary home at Toronto Harbourfront The space is a fraction of the size of the original building in Don Mills, which has been closed since June, 2024

Ford closed the science centre for no reason, is shrinking it dramatically, and gov’t doesn’t want you to know the truth about this.

This move to Harbourfront is, basically, a merger of two institutions into one building 1/8 the size of the old Science Centre.

The government made up a nonsense statistic (86,000) to try and cover this up.

It worked

Save Ontario's Science Centre

With the exception that the govt would have to admit they made a mistake in closing the Ontario Science Centre, there is not now or has there ever been a reason why the interactive science experience couldn't have continued at 770 Don Mills Road

Ontario Newsroom

News today about the Ontario Science Centre: Its "temporary location" will take over most, or possibly all, of Harbourfront Centre.

86,000 square feet is a larger fraction, if not all, of Harbourfront's buildings.

Yes or no?

Look, but don’t touch!

Fenced off from families & patrolled by security, the former Exploration Plaza at the Ontario Science Centre, donated by Telus in 2006, is a winter wonderland.

Will you help us to reopen the park, @telussupport.bsky.social ?

Share, please!

I have read all 69 pages of the decison.
Just because the long lineup of experts paid to attend the OLT on behalf of the developer are more experienced at testifying at a tribunal than city or TRCA staff is no reason to ignore 70+ years of conservation and protections of ravine land.

Would you still support a massive condo development fully 100% in a ravine if there wasn't some vague promise from the developers of 'new' public space?
We continue to see developers promise public amenities which are never fulfilled or a major disappointment
