When I run marathons, I go about 220 km/s w.r.t. the Galactic Center.
I’m also a crusty old scientist, but I don’t share your pessimism. I see it as another potential tool to get me where I want to go. It’s not without its problems, but the same could be said for most tools that have improved scientific endeavors.
