I find 'darker' means one of two things:
* More swearing
* More gore
* Wait, maybe both?
* I guess more sex as well
* This list has gotten away from me...

Hard agree. It robs levelling of so much significance, robs the player of those cool against-all-odds moments, and makes the world feel like a theme park.

Oh, I'm fortunate to be in a game of Draw Steel! Yes, I love what it does with classes, giving everyone something unique and interesting to do. Including the GM! I didn't get the 4e link before, but that totally fits.

For me, I can't get enough of the combat. It really turns-up the puzzle aspect.

I can absolutely understand that POV. Funnily enough, I adore crunchier systems like Pathfinder 1e/2e and Traveller, but I enjoyed that D&D 4e was trying something fresh with a property I was finding increasingly stale and bloated.

I feel this is the opinion that'll get me cancelled, but I really enjoyed 4e. It streamlined the claggiest thing about tabletop, and while I think the roleplaying mechanics could have been polished, that's an area I'm more happy to improv.

There's a dark timeline where all of RPGtube is that exact line, with face after face of sad grognards.

None-creatives (especially tech bros) love generative AI. It puts 'art' into their hands without any of the effort.

Unfortunately it's very much a monkey's paw situation. Sure, you have art, but it has no soul, and it'll make anything you put it in worse.

Bowman now has a sword and board fren, for when the adventurers get too close.
